scholars in southwest India discovered one of the founding principles of modern mathematics hundreds of years before Newton ,, the knowledge garnered in Kerala may have been transmitted to the West via Jesuit missionaries.

 

also discovered the pi series and calculated it to nine, 10 and 17 decimal places, according to Physorg.

the 'Kerala School' identified the 'infinite series'- one of the basic components of calculus - in about 1350.

 

Nilakantha Somayajin, in his work Siddhanta Darpanam (AD 1442), gives accurate dimensions of the Sun, Moon and the other visible planets.
