18 Oct attack could be handiwork of Hamza Bin Laden: Benazir

LONDON: Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who survived an assassination attempt on the day of her return to Pakistan on October 18, today warned that Pakistan is under the "increasing threat of an extremist takeover".

She said restoration of democracy is must to save the country.

Pakistan is "under the increasing threat of an extremist takeover" and to save the country democracy must be restored, Bhutto said warning to part ways with the government of Pakistan, if it imposes emergency in the country.

Bhutto said while talking to a news television channel that she believed the bomb attack may have been the handiwork of Hamza Bin Laden, the son of Osama Bin Laden.

Bhutto repeated her demand to seek assistance from foreign countries in probing the suicide attack on her.

"The elements in the Pakistan administration may have been complicit in the attack - and Scotland Yard and FBI specialists should be brought in to help the police investigation," she said.

Bhutto also said the recent assassination attempt had made her "more determined to continue" her fight.

The former premier said she did not have any evidence to suggest involvement of President Musharraf in the assassination attempt on her.

However Bhutto said key members of the present political apparatus "loathe" the Pakistan People's Party for its vision of a federal democratic state.

Bhutto said she would oppose if Musharraf continues to use the military uniform and warned that it might "demoralise the armed forces". She said she would accept the decision of the Supreme Court on the issue.

Asked about the strain her family have undergone since her return to Pakistan she said "they understand that I'm doing this for their country and people of Pakistan".
