21 Feb - Bars Closed?

And yes, I read the sticky post at the beginning of the nightlife section. But I also know that the rules for this particular holiday are not entirely clear. And that these sorts of things get less clear when you are outside of Bangkok.

 

Anyone know? Any bar owners here who can say for sure?

 

I have the day off and the Friday after, and I am trying to decide if it make a a long quiet weekend (Koh Chang with a "semi-good" but neurotic (is there any other kind) TG) or a wild blow out in Pattaya. I kind of prefer the latter.

you have to do reservation fast as many have long weekends!

No word in Pattaya. Reports are supermarkets already have signs up re no alcohol sales this weekend.

 

One Soi 6 bar owner has told me he will close Thursday Macha Bucha Day without being told to do so. He just feels it isn't good for his relationship with the police to be open on a religious holiday.

 

I'd plan on Koh Chang :thumbup:

We'll find out tonight. Another nail in the coffin with 5 days closure this / next month. You just can't run a business like this with the government closing you for 10%+ of the time

According to Thai-Anxiety, bars should be shut from 8am on the 21st through to 8am on the 22nd, then from 6pm on the 22nd through to midnight on the 23rd. Though in previous elections bars usually could open from about 9pm on the 2nd day.
