Fidel
Well... I was sitting in an Paddy's Day party tonight, with about 300 others, when everyone got up and started answering their phones. Word had arrived that one of Islamabad's most popular ex-pat hang-outs had been bombed and that there were several dead and injured foreigners. The mood dropped noticeably. After about 20 minutes we were told the party's off and everyone has to leave. Thankfully, I found an even better party nearby. Anyway, this comes hot on the heels of a crazy raid involving about a dozen armed men entering the office on an INGO up the road, rounding all the staff up into a room. Opening fire on them, hurling a grenade at them and torching the building and all the vehicles on their way out. The police literally turned and ran when they heard all the gunfire In any case... we have several dead and dismembered foreigners in town tonight, and things will only get crazier. Watch this space! ISLAMABAD: Two persons including a foreigner woman have died and over 15 others have injured in Islamabad blast on Saturday evening a foreign newswire said. The US diplomats are also feared among the injured, the reports said. The majority of injured is reportedly foreigners, the sources added. The blast occurred in the backside of an Italian restaurant â?? Luna Capreseâ? near Super market, the sources said. Over 15 injured including foreigners have been shifted to hospitals. Nature of the blast, which happened at about 850PM is yet to be ascertained. "There was an explosion inside the Luna Caprese Italian restaurant in the centre of the capital," police official Mohammad Ishtiaq said. Witnesses also confirmed casualties. "There are lots of injured people who have lost their limbs and legs, foreigners were inside. the eywitness said. End.
Flashermac
Sounds like Iran just before the Ayatollah. Several friends who were working in Iran told me that at first only foreigners who openly insulted Islam or local traditions were bothered. But after a while, any foreigner was a target. That was when the foreign companies pulled out. Time to start job hunting?

TheCorinthian
Believe me, the thought had crossed my mind... I am fairly sure West Virginia has people just as needy and they don't tend to blow you up. There is also Northern Thailand which is about the same way. Flashermac
<< Officials said the bomb was thrown over the wall or was planted in the restaurant's garden, which had been crowded with diners. The restaurant has a single private security guard at its entrance, but none along its perimeter. Turkey's Foreign Ministry identified the dead woman as Sacide Ender Baskaya, who had been working for a Turkish aid organization, Support to Life. A ministry statement condemned the attack and said Turkey would "maintain its solidarity with brother Pakistan." A list of victims was posted in the reception of an Islamabad hospital. Five U.S. citizens were listed as undergoing surgery. One Japanese citizen, one Canadian, one Briton and three Pakistanis also were wounded. "There were U.S. Embassy personnel among the injured. They are receiving medical treatment and their families are being notified," Mayfield said. She was unable to confirm the number of personnel wounded and their nationalities. The British Foreign Office reported that a staff member from the British High Commission had been "lightly injured" in the blast. The man was being treated in a hospital, the office said. Japan's Kyodo News agency said two of its journalists were injured, including the outgoing Islamabad bureau chief. One was hospitalized with a broken jaw and the other had light injuries. >> Link
