Julian2
The Scots were great explorers in early Australia. Usually free settlers they moved into unknown country in search of the best land and water. Many named their farms and new villages after their old homes. It's interesting for Australians to drive through rural Scotland and come across tiny villages that have given their names to quite large towns in Australia. Torneyboy
....theres a place in shetland called twatt. priceless! I'll try and visit when I'm in Shetland next month. Oh Dear: 21. Twatt, Orkney, Shetland Islands, Scotland The Shetland Islands, pronounced â??Shitland Islandsâ? if you have an accent like mine, make up a happy little area north of Scotland where itâ??s too cold for trees to grow. I am related to approximately half the population of the Shetland Islands, share a last name with a quarter of them, and can probably trace my ancestry back to Twatt if I try hard enough. The pride!
