Crash999
I have bought a wide variety of DVDs with mixed results. The ones from Panthip have all worked but some of the movies (especially no-brainers like new releases) are the old camera-in-bag videos. It's much cheaper to get them on VCD and it'll be the same quality anyway. The Star Wars series are like that. I actually have the series on laserdisc back in the US so I had initially thought that someone took the time to create DVDs from the laserdiscs- an excellent idea! But they didn't do that and the discs, aside from a couple of extra features, are no better than VCDs. Older movies, however, are copies of DVDs (MPEG-2). I've had better luck on the 4th floor of MBK near Tokyo. The vendors there have discs that, as far as my experiences have been so far, are all MPEG-2 DVDs. The problem is that some of the DVDs have manufacturing defects and simply don't work. The first time I bought DVDs I went out and got 8. 4 were defective. Since then I have bought about 8 more from the same store and they all have been fine. Cheers!
