SET index raising

Since the last few weeks the SET - Stock Exchange of Thailand is the place to put your money.

If the predictions are right the SET should raise in the short term at least to 420.

My experience with SEAMICO-on-line trading is really very, very good. Also the support and the information excellent. www.seamico.com

I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY, BUT SINCE I HAVE MADE SOME BUCKS UNTIL TODAY, WHY NOT SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE WITH OTHERS.

At this stage it's really not an "adventure" to buy stocks in Thailand.

One have to know that foreign investors have bought about 13 BILLION Baht net worth of Thai stocks only this year.

By the way, I was working for years in one of the biggest brokerage houses in Thailand

and know the market "a little bit".

Okay okay, before this gets out of line, lol.

I already received a couple of emails about this thread.

Reference to Seamico is okay for me as it seems to be a regular player in the thai market. Guy's just saying he's had a good experience using this company. That's what this board is about. He's not pumping up a specific stock to hard blah blah blah.

Thailand is a regional market with much influence "exercised" by large local players smile.gif" border="0 Invest at your own risk.

Didier, no offense. While buying stocks in Thailand is no "adventure" into the hinterlands, it is a little bit riskier than in the west. One shouldn't invest unless they know the local scene and specifically atleast a little bit of the company to receive the investment. Otherwords, Caveat Emptor (or whatever).

Lastly, while 13 billion baht sounds like alot, it's only about US 400 million. Institutions trade serious large blocks of money. Given the recent ramp-up in Thai Airways, it would only take a few trades in this stock to give you 13 billion baht. To me this was a great play. Thai Airways is backed the by the gov't. Thaksin makes a disparaging comment about Thai Airways a number of months back. Stock takes a dive. My friend bought in. Stock has done very well since! Can't predict what's going to happen in the future though, "someone" can easily say something else bad about the airline and it could tumble again. TIT.

To back Didier's general sentiment, Thailand seems to be on an upswing for some reason. Why, I have no clue. About a month or two back, Cerebus announced a US1-billion investment fund for thailand. Haven't heard anything else about it. Also read another 200 million fund, but can't remember the name.

Wasn't this a long post where I basically said absolutely noth'n? smile.gif" border="0

Actually, Didier, I share some of your sentiments about the Thai stock market. There are some excellently priced companies in the SET (of course, there are also of sharks as well). I do not want to get into specific companies. However I would like your recommendation on stockbroking companies (obviously only those licensed with the Stock Exchange of Thailand) which you have easy to work with. I guess you transact through Seamico.

Questions: Have you transacted with any other stockbrokers? Is there any particular broker (individual) you would recommend (because of proficiency in language etc).

All help appreciated.

it is a little bit riskier than in the west. Good advice ! but well understated. Its a crappy little manipulated market with a register of (in the main)poorly operated companies with almost nothing in the way of shareholder protection and very little company disclosure.

They Don't call it the Klong Toei casino for nuthin'!!

This is in sharp contrast to the US where you have companies like Enron that are properly audited by respected accountants like Arthur Anderson laugh.gif" border="0

The SET has a PE ratio of 5 against 30 for the S&P 500 so a lot of the extra risk is priced into the market.
