gobbledonk
No, they werent smuggling dope, although I would argue that they *are* dopes - Australians get stiff jail sentences in Papua The Australians have described it as a sightseeing flight and mistakenly believed they could get visas on arrival in Papua. The pilot, William Scott-Bloxam, was today jailed for three years and fined 50 million rupiah ($800) by Merauke District Court in Papua oncharges he flew the plane into Indonesia without permission. Have to wonder how different it would have been if it had been Bali and not a province that is an acute source of embarrassment to the Indonesian goverment. By contrast, armed robbers in Oz usually get 5-7 years : anything less than that level of crime is treated relatively leniently, largely because our prisons are bursting at the seams. There *are* illegal immigrants who have spent that long in our detention system, but these are usually people seeking residency or suspected of some form of other crime.
