Khun_Kong
I'll be going to Hong Kong for a long weekend in May. Any of our esteemed BMs have any up-to-date suggestions for sanuk, dining, sightseeing, shopping, hotels, etc.? BTW, when I search for "Hong Kong", I mostly get a boatload of hits for "Hong naam". ..
What are you looking to do specifically? I'm sure I can help. HKG doesn't really change all that much (unlike LOS), so the older reports should be reasonably accurate. Do a search here. Also plenty of online sources: http://www.bcmagazine.net http://www.hk-live.com http://hk-magazine.com http://www.hkcatch.com http://www.timeout.com.hk for starters. Khun_Kong
Thanks for the links, SD. Mostly just looking to see/do something unique/unusual. Some ideas thrown my way have been: a boat tour around the island, a double-decker bus ride/tour to see the sights, walk the esplanade on Kowloon at night to see the lights of Hong Kong, do a day trip to Macao and visit a museum, checkout the nice parks in the city, ride the tram up to the peak, see Ocean Park amusement park, avoid Disneyland, checkout that loooong escalator, stuff like that. BMs have so much info that's generally not available easily elsewhere, examples like play at Saphan Kwai for something different, the value of SC over NP, avoiding Patpong upstairs bars, enjoy the Rembrandt Indian buffet. You're well traveled- what would you recommend? BTW, it's 3 farangs traveling with our Thai girls. The girls are all first time flyers and first time out of Thailand, all educated, well-read and adventurous. Edit: just looked through the links. Thanks double! ..
In addition to the ideas you have... The gals will like the big Buddha on Lantau Island. And most likely Stanley Market, as well as the Temple St and "Ladies" Night Markets. Look for the sex toy sellers for a laugh. Awesome Peking Duck, try Spring Deer in TST. Small & hard to find, but worth it. Good dancing to live music, try Dusk-til-Dawn in Wanchai. Tho' often too crowded. OK food too. Not so many whores as are found in regular discos (Apple, Strawberry, Neptune, etc). If you look carefully, there are some tiny Thai food places on Luard Rd nr Lockhart Rd (also in Wanchai). Hit Lan Kwai Fong (lotsa to do, food/drink/entertainment-wise). Avoid shopping on Nathan Rd. Avoid girlie bars. Cross the harbour on a Star Ferry. ..
No worries. Finding those links brought me to this page in one of them. Ahhhhh, the mammaries...errr memories. What I can remember of them anyway! Rick's, Yelt's Inn, China Jump, Flying Pig, Joe Banannas back in those days (it's still there, but sucks now)....ah that BKK would have bars like that They were awesome, and as the article said: the right thing at the right time.
