allistar
Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson's long time side kick, died in hospital in LA after several months battling illnesses and old age. He did a lot of good for many charities, including the annual MSD telephon. RIP
Flashermac
Oh, my ... Ed McMahon. He was a WWII Marine Corps fighter pilot in the Pacific. I hadn't realised he was still around. RIP, Ed.
cavanami
Ed had been going thru some financial tough times. RIP.
allistar
Hi bio says he fought in both WWII and the Korean War. I always thought it was strange that Carson rarely appeared on TV after he left the Tonight show but Ed obviously felt the need to work.
HSTEACH
Carson left as a multimillionaire, McMahon wasn't in the same position. RIP Ed and Johnny, you were the best in late night entertainment.
USVirgin
I used to see him around town when I was a kid. Didn't know him personally but IIRC the story was he did well in real estate. That was like 30 years ago.
Steve
Always thought he made a ton of money. Surely he made 'enough' (at least by our standards). Did he spend what he had or didn't invest or invested wrong? Wonder what happened. Always loved him playing straight man to Carson's Carnac mind reader segment where Carson would call say all kinds of harsh things to him "...may a team of monkeys fight over coconuts in your pants..." I always hoped to have him stop my place and tell me I was the Publisher's Clearing House winner.
