According to Miss Wimon Ponekumpin, or Ann, [23], she had been attacked and robbed after withdrawing 10,000 baht from an ATM on Jomtien Beach Road on 31st August. She was later taken to hospital to treat a stomach injury she claimed she had sustained during the attack. However, on 1st September, Pattaya Deputy Superintendent Police Colonel Chanapat Nawaluck, was informed by the investigation team that the Siam Commercial bank at Soi Jomtien 11 had no record of a cash withdrawal at the time mentioned by the woman. The police then rushed to the hospital, only to find out that Wimon had already made her exit. According to police, Wimon, originally from 158 Moo. 6 , Ngiew Sub- district, Terng, Chiengrai province, was the only child in her family. She had however told police that she used her sister’s ATM card to withdraw the 10,000 baht from the bank on that night. Also, the bank CCTV had no evidence of her withdrawing the money. A consequent check on her record found out that Wimon had visited several provinces before and had a habit of telling different stories to the local police. On a previous occasion in Supanburi she reported she was tricked into taking drugs to make her sleep, and was nearly raped. More recently she reported a fake incident in Bangsan 2 days before travelling to Pattaya, claiming she had been threatened and assaulted. Police will now wait for the official report from the bank and continue the investigation to request for a warrant to bring Wiman back to Pattaya, even though she had vowed never to return to Pattaya again.
