FreeTime
It seems most Thai banks are now charging 150 baht for ATM withdrawls. My CDN bank account offers free travel cheques, so was thinking of using them this winter with ATM card as back up. In the past there was some discussion on T.C. fees charged by Thai banks. Some claimed that the fee (30 baht) plus stamp duty (3 baht) was the same regardless of T.C. dollar value. That is to say, the 33 baht charge for cashing one $100.00 travel cheque was the same for cashing one $500.00 travel cheque. Some thought the charge for cashing a $500.00 cheque was 33 baht X 5. Anyone up to date on Thai bank charges for T.C.?
SurinBum
How easy we are suckered in regarding the controling financial institutions.
cavanami
The charge is per TC, nothing to do with the amount of the TC, so it is cost effective to get $500 TC, if you can. Cash also works, for me better, as the bank I get free TC from only does up to $100 TC. They charge a fee to order in the $500 TC.

FreeTime
Did not realize that $500.00 T.C. notes may be special order, thanks for the tip. A 33 baht charge to cash and convert $500.00 is cheap, if the cheques can be found over the counter.
robaus
..and you get a good exchange rate ... better than cash for TCs... just fiddly ordering, signing, then countersigning the bastards. Tip for Aussies..if you own 500 ANZ bank shares you can get Amex TCs commission free.
TroyinEwa/Perv
Also, from what I remember, a passport is needed to exchange them.
