PATTAYA EXPATS LEARN ABOUT HIV

Pattaya, September 14 [PDN]: The members of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC), especially the males of the species, were very keen to learn the real facts behind HIV, and just how easy (or difficult) it is to contract AIDS.

The guest speaker was Dr. Chatri Sirriwattanarungsri, who is an MD at Phayathai Hospital in Sriracha, and a specialist in HIV and respiratory diseases, with a degree from Mahidol University, backed up by study in America.

He revealed that 20% of HIV cases are the result of unprotected sex, and men only have a 3% chance of infection. Where Caucasian people have a CX or CTR-5 mutant gene in their cells, they seem to be immune from HIV infection. Other infection sources include mothers with new babies, exchanging needles and homosexual activity.

It is interesting to note that when HIV arrived in Australia in the mid 1990’s, the “Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital†in Melbourne carried out a survey of its patients and found that 97% of Aids cases were directly related to homosexual activity. Now it is so widespread that it is difficult to pin the causes down to any particular group, other than to say that personal hygiene plays an important part in its control.

Symptoms such as rashes, fatigue and fever can appear after a 12-week incubation period, after which the HIV virus seems to lie dormant for about 10-years. A new “wonder drug†named “Combid†can be taken within 1-week of infection, and if taken every single day for 30-days it will generally eradicate the Aids-HIV virus. Dr. Chatri was extremely knowledgeable, and PCEC members kept him occupied with some vert thought provoking questions relating to HIV.

interesting indeed - quite a few bold statements/claims made by this young looking doc such as 'wonder treatment/cure' & '20% of cases during sex & others by homosexuals' :hmmm:

percentage stats are nice on a rainy or not so rainy day, but the fact is that there's an exact 50% chance of everyone of us catching it - either we do (50%) or else we don't (50%) ;)
