USVirgin
I liked the article and thought I'd share it. I particularly liked the link to the ITA Software site. Those were the MIT guys who launched ORBITZ when they though they'd built a better mousetrap for making sense out of all the schedule, fares, fare rules and inventory data available, until they realized that all the trillions of data discombobulated their computers. Anyway, I think the ITA site is really cool for window shopping (they don't sell tickets), but the newspaper article provides good tips for shoppers: Booking a Flight the Frugal Way When traveling to Asia, however, still don't forget to check prices with a good old fashioned ethnic consolidator travel agent. I think they still exist.
Damen
ITA is the king. To make it really useful you need to brush up on all the commands. Forcing connections on certain airlines for addl miles, looking for fares for certain carriers, fare classes, etc. I sourced a trip on ITA from ORD-SIN last October that cost me $500 in E+. Doing ORD-Panama City RT in a few weeks for the measly sum of $144 thanks to ITA.
