Mentors
The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship has opened a centre to monitor news released by both the government and the red shirts to detect fabrications, Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, editor of the "Voice of Taksin" magazine, announced on Wednesday. Mr Somyos said the centre called "Democracy News Network (DNN)" is located at the People Channel Radio station on the fifth floor of the Imperiel department store on Lat Phrao road. The centre started to operate from Wednesday, he said. The DNN, which he is chairman, would monitor news releases of both the government and the red shirts. [color:red]If there were fabrications with an intention to put blame on the red shirts despite their peaceful and unarmed demonstration, the DNN would translate them into five languages - Cambodian, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese and English - and send the translations to international human rights and religious organisations, the United Nations, and political parties in other countries such as Britain, Germany and the United States to tell the world of the government's dictatorial acts, Mr Somyos said. [color:red]The DNN, on receiving video clips or pictures of government authorities suppressing the people, would disseminate them worldwide through YouTube. Mr Somyos urged the people to give the DNN pictures and video clips of any cruel treatments made to the protesters so that the centre could use them to put the government to shame. "Those who give use pictures and video clips which are important evidence of government suppression will be paid from 10,000 to 100,000 baht," he said. He said the DNN had its website to spread news the rally and 10 telephone numbers, 0884941459-68, to receive calls from people who witnessed acts of suppression against the red shirts. Mr Somyos dared the government to shut the People Channel radio and televition stations, saying that he had alternative channels to replace them. http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/171017/udd-opens-counter-govt-news-centre

Julian2
Didn't all this happen because Thaksin and Sohndi fell out? What was that about? Thaksin used to get great press back then. Once again, it had nothing to do with press censorship, more to do with dirty money.
Flashermac
The two of them were thick as thieves, before they squabbled. Then Sondhi started the yellow shirts, Thaksin reacted and got the boot. Then along came the red shirts. Both Sondhi and the T-man are wealthy western educated Chinese-Thais. Amazing that they can stir up so many proles to support them. Come to think of it, Chamlong (also Chinese) got Thaksin started in politics. ThaiHome
Thaksin and Sondi fell out over advertising revenue and rates for Sondi’s media outlets. Sondi felt that since they were such good friends that Shin Corp should give him a sweetheart deal since Shin was making so much money off the sweetheart deals it had with the government in mobile phone and satellite business. Shin Corp put the screws to him and they quit talking. At this point Sondi, not one to take this laying down, looked around at the growing groundswell of resentment toward the TRT from the middle class and set up the PAD along with Chamlong. Making the arrangement with Chamlong was a master stroke. He is much admired by the middle class not only for his ascetic lifestyle (some irony), but as the leader of the 1992 protests he along with Suchinda, had the audience with the King when King told them to stop. The 1992 demonstrations were the last time the middle class spoke up about how things were going in the country. TH
