Bar4
It was about a week ago I was saying to someone there is no way I would sink money into Thailand and imagine what it must be like for the likes of Toyota and other large corporates having significant investment is this country when they could have put the money into somewhere progressive like Malaysia. Remember the likes of Orange & Carlsberg basically said "fook it - we are outta here". The 3G licence farce. Jeez other countries are now installing 4G/LTE networks and these clowns are still trying to work out how to get the backhanders done for 3G. The jet ski rippoff in Phuket, the baht bus mafia in Pattaya. Greedy fucks. It really is an appropriate slogan - Amazing Thailand. Toyota to halt output at one of its Thai plants Toyota to halt output at one of its Thai plants May. 14 2010 - 04:02 pm Toyota said Friday it will halt production at one of its four auto plants in Thailand and transfer the workers to the other factories in a move the carmaker says is unrelated to political unrest in the Southeast Asian country. Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Takanori Yokoi said decision to stop production at a Toyota factory on the outskirts of the Thai capital Bangkok was made in November last year. It was part of Toyota's restructuring efforts to boost efficiency and profitability. Vehicle production will stop by the end of May. The Bangkok plant produces Fortuner sport utility vehicles and Hilux Vigo pickup trucks. Toyota will decide what to do with the plant after it ceases production, he said. Kyodo News agency said the Bangkok plant has annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles, which Yokoi could not confirm. Toyota said about 960 workers at the factory will be transferred to the company's three other plants in Thailand. Violence in the Thai capital has claimed 30 lives and left hundreds injured in the past two months as anti-government protesters occupy the city's commercial district, seeking to oust the government. Julian2
I thought Carlsberg pulled out over a dispute with the company making it here? Why was that due to politics? I'd tend to believe that political unrest causes greater alcohol consumption, not less. Link

USVirgin
They might be suspending operations at that plant, but the near term outlook is not so bleak, according to another article I read today. ThaiHome
I do often what motivates people to post stuff like this that has no basis in fact and the truth is actually the opposite. During this whole thing, foreign investors have poured money into the SET, construction has continued unabated on billions of USD projects. The only think I can come up with some sort of deep seated bitterness at their lot in life. TH
