Flashermac
A friend needs help: ---- Does anyone have any advice on international share trading when living in LOS? Am looking for a broker to handle it. Have looked at online sites but all require you to be a citizen of that country with a bank account there. Is there a broker in Thailand that can handle international share trading? Problem is, I'm a Brit in Thailand, the funds are in Oz and I want to trade on the US or UK stock market. Have looked at online sites but all require you to be a citizen of that country with a bank account there. WRONG. I have a friend that is a Dutch citizen, living in Germany that trades US stocks using Ameritrade. Check ameritrade.com Will need to xfr USD to the ameritrade account (in the USA). The account was setup while in Germany, so no need to be in the USA.
Flashermac
Ameritrade requires a Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. So how did your friend get around this?
cavanami
Fill out the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number form, should be on the Ameritrade website. '800 phone number, call them.

Flashermac
The friend is British. He does NOT have a Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number so can NOT fill out the form. As for the 800 number... no one can dial these from outside the States. Pom Michael
800 numbers? Why can't you dial from Thailand? Just dial 001-1-800 and the rest of the number - works fine. (or use one of the voip setups like 001-809-1-800-) {The recording that you hear is just telling you that the call will not be toll free} Cheers!
