USVirgin
Literally. I read something funny last night and spewed a small amount of beer on my laptop. It seemed to have instantly shorted out the monitor. The computer sounds like it's working, but the screen is still dead after about 10 hours. Any suggestions, other than taking it in for service? (I've tried punching it and re-booting it, to no avail).
carlton68
Most notebooks have VGA-out or HDMI-out. Connect a monitor to this output, turn the notebook on. You need to find the key you need to press to toggle video output between the monitors. Maybe keys 'Fn' and 'F4'. Won't cure the problem but helps to decide if the monitor is 'kaputt' or something else.

cavanami
Carefully clean the PC with water. Wash out the beer. Allow the PC to dry in the sun for a few days, make sure it is dry or use a hair dryer and dry it out...important to make sure it is dried out. See what happens after this. Best to take apart, clean and dry. Maybe OK.
USVirgin
I can connect to an external monitor, at least in safe mode, then the laptop passes all the diagnostic tests. This means the problem is just the monitor, right? Or could it be a driver or something else? Thanks.
USVirgin
Cavanami, Thanks. Haven't tried this get, but it could use a good cleaning anyway, if I'm ever going to use it again.
