Fatboy
Thinking of bringing the lady up to Chiangmai for a few days. She does not like the idea of flying and as I will be unable to accompany her, I thought bus or train. Can anyone give me an idea of the fare from Bangkok to Chiangmai in aircon bus. Thanks. TroyinEwa/Perv
Probably about right......maybe a bit higher. I've several 12 hour bus rides, probably around the same distance to CM and they ranged from 700-900 baht, depending on which company and bus type used. MooNoi
The Nakhon Ping Express from BKK - CNX and v.v. is the best one. Leaves about 6.00pm and is a very comfortable way to travel. Buses aren't in great condition sometimes and the drivers quite often on uppers to stay awake. Flashermac
It is often difficult to get a Thai woman to take the train. I used to take trains to Chiangmai and back fairly regularly. But my Mrs would insist on a bus when she went alone. She told me some story about a woman being raped in a sleeper car once upon a time. I will tell her stories about bus drivers falling asleep, running of the road and killing everyone on baord! If she still insists on a bus, try to get one that travels in the daytime, when the driver is less likely to be popping pills to stay awake. The overnight buses aren't uncomfortable, just dangerous.
