gobbledonk
I've only taken one of the 'pirate' cabs once, and its a false economy, IMO. The 'cab' was a rundown beater, the driver a homicidal maniac and it was clear that he expected a hundred baht tip at the end of the journey. Compared to the marathon drive from either of KL's airports into the CBD, BKK is usually pretty good, although I'm still stunned by the intensity of the traffic at 1am on Suk. In any case, budgeting 20 AUD each way for cabs to and from the airport doesnt leave me begging along Suk at any stage on a holiday - obviously, its a much bigger deal for those who have to travel frequently for business etc. Lets face it - in Bangkok, a 500 baht note just isnt what it used to be. Flashermac
When I came to Thailand as a PCV, 100 baht was the biggest note there was. 5 baht was paper too.
