hooper
The actual beech is the crown property. If the sea gypos have lived there for a long while good luck but they have no claim to surrounding land just because they have lived there. To much value in phuket land no chanot no deal.Who ever has the power to write one up is a rich man. chelseafan
Is this one of Stacey Dooley's documentries ? If so she has done a few before and is a tad naive about the world.
Dexi
Yes,I think thats her.She did one about Cambodia a couple of months ago in much the same style.Tried to get the police to close down some red light area bars and went on a " raid " with them.Strangely though someone had tipped off all the owners beforehand so it was all a waste of time
Dexi
Maybe the govt. could buy the land and allow the sea gypos to live there.By the way, although they are called sea gypos ,in the doco. she said their ancestors came from China.

Dexi
Interesting point about the beach being Crown property.....if you`ve ever walked the length Pattaya beach you will know that once you get past the lighthouse at the southern end theres a short stretch of sand and then access is impossible because of the walls of the hotel/condo complex. If not for this it would be possible to walk round the headland to Jomtien. So land that should belong to the Crown has been annexed. Flashermac
<< The Moken (also spelled Mawken or Morgan; Thai: ชาวเล, chao le "sea people"), are an Austronesian ethnic group with about 2,000 to 3,000 members who maintain a nomadic, sea-based culture. They speak their own language which belongs to the Austronesian language family. >> Wikipedia So how does this make them from China?
