Flashermac Posted December 14, 2011 Report Share Posted December 14, 2011 Two people were killed and around 15 wounded Tuesday when gunmen opened fire on a busy central square in the eastern Belgian city of Liege, Belga news agency quoted police as saying. At least two gunmen armed with a Kalashnikov and flash grenades were involved in the lunch hour attack, it added. The attack took place around noon on Saint-Lambert square, home to the town's courthouse and located near a busy Christmas market. One of the assailants was killed while another fled inside the courthouse, where members of a crack police squad were taking up position. Police denied reports of a later shoot-out further across town, the news agency said. It said several "suspect" objects were found on the square and that police bomb defusal experts were on the way. RTL-TV1 earlier said the assailants threw stun grenades into the courthouse while one was hurled at a bus shelter. Police cordoned off the square. Police were not immediately available for comment. I dont know about you, Flash, but the grenade was one weapon that I found quite terrifying - both in terms of lobbing them at a target and the prospect of having one lobbed into your pit. Flashermac Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Share Posted December 14, 2011 I carried frag grenades in RVN, but I never liked them. They were useful for clearing a bunker or as a last resort. Other than that, they stayed clipped to my ammo pouches. I had a friend who was killed in his Infantry AIT at Fort Ord. He was a buddy from Basic Combat Training, a draftee from Las Vegas. Really good guy though not to swift, sort of a black Gomer Pyle. I was told he was on the grenade range and was handed a grenade in his right hand and told to pull the pin. He did, but since he was left handed he switched the grenade to his left had before throwing it! It exploded as he threw it, killing him and putting the range NCO into the hospital with serious injuries. Grenades are not your friend. p.s. My terror was the white phosporous grenade.
