limbo Posted February 18, 2012 Report Share Posted February 18, 2012 Thailand's Thaksin prepares for war By John Cole and Steve Sciacchitano Newly appointed Thai Minister of Defense Air Chief Marshal Sukampon Suwannathat is quietly planning to activate a new "war room", or secretive unofficial command center, to direct mass pro-government "red-shirt" demonstrations planned for the coming months, according to senior Thai military sources familiar with the situation. The war room, created at the direction of fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, will become operational by June, the same sources say. The senior military sources say that Thaksin, who lives in self-exile in the United Arab Emirates, ordered that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, his younger sister, be kept in the dark about the war room's creation so that she may honestly deny its existence if questioned by the press. The 2006 elections "were botched on legal technicalities" ... yeah, sort of the way Thaksin had the voting booths turned around so that his poll watchers could make sure people voted the way they were supposed to. Not to mention his paying small parties to run against his candidates when the major parties had boycotted the elections. How can you have "true democracy" when the man leading it has the mentality of a Mafia godfather? Flashermac Posted February 18, 2012 Report Share Posted February 18, 2012 The amazing thing is how so few seem to admit that Thaksin is a power-hungry megalomaniac. It is all about him. Without Thaksin, the red shirt coalition would quickly come apart. Yinguck couldn't replace him, nor could Chalerm. Rather than a coup, I would expect to see Thaksin have an "unfortunate accident".
