kamui
Slightly OT. There is this Album "The Sound of Siam: Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz & Molam 1964 - 1975" by a brit vinyl record collector, who, while living in BKK, went the through vinyl record shops in search of interesting music. It's a real nice sampler (from my perspective as a total ignoramus in regard to Thai music): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT45r5vfw9M
gobbledonk
Great stuff Kamui - I learnt a lot about Germany from Rammstein. (at least they admit their lyrics arent meant to be make sense - how many US bands other than the Ramones have admitted as much ?)

gobbledonk
Nothing would surprise me - they consider themselves 'artists' first and musicians second. Seriously weird band, that one.

gobbledonk
I read an interview with the lead singer some time back where he said they build the lyrics around words that they think will 'fit' the emotions they are trying to convey with the music, regardless of the literal translation - they know its stupid to German speakers, but they dont care. I suspect that Rammstein are actually more popular outside of Europe than they are in the countries around their Homeland. Gotta love the translation of their Spanish epic, Te Queiro Puta : I love you, whore ! A former co-worker once told me that the low ebb of a 6-week European getaway with his beloved was when they found themselves awake at 2am courtesy of hookers arguing below their bedroom window in Madrid. His GF (they've since married and divorced) knew enough Spanish to give him the gist of it, but I dont think you'd need a translator to work that one out.
