So Suthep and his gang will be the supreme rulers...then what? what's their plan? they need to define the nuts and bolts of what they intend to do, IMO...

Suthep and his gang already ARE the supreme rulers, they have just become irritated with the prolonged threat democracy has posed to their mon-oligarchy and want to revert back to the same old, same old. They have no way of getting back to their chosen mode of power via the ballot box, so they tried to prompt a 'national security' coup with the phony 'popular' protests and blocking traffic. (sorry, Flashermac, but the Dems would have been absolutely crushed - again - had they contested the election that they had demanded... Southerners is who Thais will vote for, and that Oxford chump? No.

The rural people have seen the light, and they are not going back without a fight - it may not be Thaksin that is their man, but whenever an election is held, the populists will win (even if the godfathers are the populists... The days of Thai pliancy on this front are over, I think.) Now the Suthep elites realize they can't get the coup they want without real negative consequences (or perhaps even because some in the army said "Coup, now? Meh... Not yet, I think, not yet....", so they go to a "criminal policy" approach, with the rice scheme. What's a criminal policy? It's policy that the elected government enacted with the support of the people, which - perhaps unwisely, perhaps excessively, and perhaps subject to a high degree of corruption - redistributes Thailand's wealth in the direction of the rice farmers. It involved bad financial analysis and stupid risk, but it certainly wasn't planned as the grand final grab by the Shinawatra family - they are in this to win it, not to walk away with a bit of grease from a rice scheme. They will make it work - the redistribution, the corruption, all of it - but the elites that run the banks and other 'agencies' are throwing up every obstacle they have...

If the farmers truly believed in the Suthep anti-government line, truly believed that they have been hoodwinked by wicked Shinawatras and are not going to get paid, they would be out in force - and it would be a true protest, no backing down. They are not out in force, despite the odd meeting here, the odd tractors parked there. They choose Thaksin and the government - again - or else they are SO fed up with everyone, that they are just going to sit it out and hope to have enough seed to plant next year. If you can't get support when a million farmers are owed money and it looks like they might not get it, you can't ever get support - that's where Suthep and co are now, and they should just take down the barricades and get back to their usual aristocratic businesses.

Three Rivers Joining

This is a big day. It has become clear that today the already good alliance between KPT and PDRC has become even closer. It has also become clear in the last 90 minutes that many farmers intend to join PDRC. This is three rivers coming into one.
