spirit_of_town_hall
I was wondering if it is possible to prevent the IT department viewing what one has looked at , ie the URL's. I am using a PC at work, I delete my history and temporary files every few hours, I know we dont have surfcontrol whats the most effective way other than abstinence. ALHOLK
Hi! As I mostly use Netscape and Opera I don't know the details but MSIE allegedly also save information in the registry. Aslo remember that virtually all internet traffic is loged so if the IT department really want to know they will find out. regards ALHOLK

adikgede
If you work for the SPCA and you have been spending alot of time at www.doggy-beaver.com it won't really matter if you have removed the pictures from your PC because the URLs you visit are logged somewhere else besides your computer. It is possible, but not likely that they could filter the traffic to your workastation to see whats keeping you so busy. I say this is unlikely because unless all the traffic coming to your computer is encrypted it is probably being cached on a local proxy, and why go through all that trouble any way because suspiscion is enough for your employer to decide that you are redundant. The best thing you could do is use one of those encrypting proxy services, but if you are spending a lot of time at this one site, your supervisor is bound to wonder whats keeping you from your work. spirit_of_town_hall
Thanks, I'll do some reading up on the facilitiesd you mentioned. Your right if an employer is merely suspicious they act, however usually if your doing a reasonable job they dont want to rock the boat. Saying that last year I think it was 8 people were sacked from Swiss Life Insurance in Liverpool for merely circulating an e mail with bart simpson in it, what the company achieved by that I dont know STH
Lusty
Hi Spirit In my case I spend a lot of time looking at non related work topics on the net.I,ve been doing this for two years but as long as I do my job and not looking at hardcore porn I,ve never had a problem. All our internet traffic comes through a main server so even if I crushed the hard drive under the forklift truck and through the bits in the river they,d still know what I had been looking at. spirit_of_town_hall
Hi Rusty, Your right, I look at a lot of inocuous stuff to pad out my Thailand stuff. One thing about the new Front page of Nanaplaza.com I understang Khun Sanuk for doing it but I wish that BG saying Handsum Man come inside was taken off, otherwise the site looks totally respectable. Also it says this is not a porn sit which its not, so why does it have to keep making references to Porn on the intro, amazon.com dont have notifiers saying they're not a porn site STH
ALHOLK
Hi! The registry is a database that contains information about your computer, both hardware and software. Some of it is readable to humans and some is not(not easy anyway). Many applications use it to store data, both temporary and persistent. Allegedly MSIE store a list of sites you have visited recently. It can be manipulated but you have to know what you're doing or your computer won't boot. regards ALHOLK
