cavanami
...no comment needed... Foreign investment plummets in junta ruled Thailand https://www.yahoo.com/news/foreign-investment-plummets-junta-ruled-thailand-064555840--finance.html Foreign investment in Thailand plummeted last year, official data showed, the latest sign that the kingdom's once-vibrant economy continues to falter under prolonged military rule. Total investment applied for by foreign companies between January and November 2015 plunged 78 percent from a year earlier to 93.8 billion baht ($2.62 billion), according to figures from Thailand's state-run Board of Investment (BoI) sent to AFP late Tuesday. The figures will do little to cheer junta leader Prayut Chan-O-Cha, who seized power in a May 2014 coup vowing to restore stability but who has struggled to kickstart the country's lacklustre economy. After years of impressive growth, Thailand's economy is struggling, mired in high household debt, stuttering exports and low consumer confidence. It also faces stiff competition from increasingly attractive neighbours like Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. Particularly worrying for Prime Minister Prayut is a significant drop off in investment from Japan -- historically the largest investor in Thailand by far -- which slumped 81 percent. EU investment also plunged from 86.7 billion baht in 2014 to just 2 billion baht last year. Investment from the United States was also heavily down, while Chinese investment was only down slightly... YimSiam
Gotta love them Chinese - they take an opportunity when they see one! EU - 86 bil to 2 bil? That's insane. And Japan - when Japan says Thailand is the wrong place to put your investment, factory, whatever - you'd think Thailand would either start to listen (or just redouble their efforts to learn Chinese). Guest
Not a good start to the government's seven-year strategy to stimulate investment, but it's still early days, lets see what happens in another 5 years ....

cavanami
Thailand has given 10 years of no tax to companies that locate in Thailand...guess what, after 10 years many move out seeking another tax free country to work in. This has been going on for a long time!

YimSiam
Poor tiger - wakes up for just another day in the jungle, looking for prey - and ends up spending the day doped up and hassled by tourists, the punch in the face by a handler.. Hey, good news on Best Country Showing, though.
Flashermac
That's a respectable showing on Best Country for the economy, not the legal system or government.
