Phil Silvers,

Does 'Kun' pronounce like 'GUN' (for shooting )in English? If it is so, it means Let's reconcile. If you two just quarrelled. This should be it.

Getting better in Thai should be pronounce like 'Dee Kern Na' or ´Õ¢Öé¹¹Ã. This vowel for the word 'kern or ¢Öé¹' is not available in English so this is as close as I can think of.

GTG, better (than before) can best be transcribed as:

/dii- khUn"/, or leaving out the tones: dii khUn

Many people would write it as "dee khuen" (English speaking people read ee as ii, etc). They tend to forget that "dee" sounds like "day" in almost all other languages.

As to khUn, you wrote "kern", but that would be more like /kEEn/ (as in kEEn pai = too far).

BTW, I'm using the so-called SCT transcription system,

which is the best possible system (except maybe IPA, but you need non-ASCII characters for that).

Can you give any URL for me to get hold of the instruction of the system? I have no idea of SCT or IPA you were talking about?

Thanks for correcting me. What way I'll learn.

Hi GTG

An URL to IPA is

http://seasrc.th.net/ipa/base.htm

The SCT script is the script used in the Newsgroup of Soc.culture.thai.

It is hardly worth the effort of learning since only a handful of people are using it.

So what is the use of being the best system if noone is using it? smile.gif

Regards

Hua Nguu
