Sanuk in Tokyo

I hoped to have this up before the World Cup. Sorry.

Firstly the bad news: Sanuk in Tokyo is expensive (especially compared to Thailand, but what ain't?) and many of the places won't allow foreigners to enter. Excuses range from "foreigner too big" to "girl no like."

The good news is despite what the touts say, many Japanese gals adore foreigners and with these little geisha not nearly as shy as their image abroad, you mightn't need to spend anything.

The obvious advice for the sanuk seekers is wait till you get to Thailand but if you've got cash to burn, a large expense account or are guests of Japan Inc. party on.

Here's a run down on what's on offer:

Soaplands: The same deal as your massage parlors in Thailand but no fish bowl. You can either pick the girl from a photo album or they'll come out to introduce themselves. Most famous area for "soapies" in Tokyo is Yoshiwara, the old red-light area near Ueno. Here some places allow entry to foreigners. Expect to pay... wait for it... US$300 for about 90-120 minutes.

Fashion health: Love the name, these places are actually a cross between a soapie and a BJ bar. One of my favorites is "Hinomaru" in the raunchy Kabukicho district of Shinjuku. For $60-80 you get 40 minutes of playtime with the girl of your choice -- plus free drinks. After entering a dingy open room filled with small sofas and blaring music, the mama san gets you a beer while you wait for the girl. Upon arrival, your darling will start with a little small talk and then point to her mouth or pussy and ask you your preference. If you're a quick worker enjoying both is an option -- and you may even have time for another beer. Overall good value for money.

Gentleman's clubs: Staffed mostly by big-breasted foreign gals filling their pockets for the next backpacking trip, these places are a rip off. The dancers are quick to join you for a drink and before long, usually within a minute, they'll pressure you to take them upstairs for a "private dance." Apart from a lick of the tit, your five minutes with the gal is nothing more than a tease and at $50 a hit makes these girls arguably the most expensive hookers in the world.

Freelancers: Come and go in waves but lately there's a team of Philippine ladies well past their expiry date hanging out at Motown bar in Roppongi as well as Thai and Colombian street walkers in seedy Shinokubo. Expect to pay around $100-200 but like anywhere, prices are negotiable.

"Aesthetic" clubs: Popular a few years ago, these "therapeutic" massage joints are generally staffed by Koreans and Chinese straight off the farms. With little chance of a shag or a "smoke" and at prices ranging from $70-200, I gave up on these places long ago when one Chinese lass gave a hand job like she was pulling weeds from the rice fields.

Image clubs: Can be fun. The gals get dolled in all sorts of uniforms ranging from schoolgirl to stewardess. Technically straight sex is not permitted under law at these joints but anal's OK! Blowjobs are the favored form of relief. Costs vary from $50-150.

"Love" Hotels: Like short-time hotels in Thailand only loaded with extra features -- revolving beds that vibrate, sex toy vending machines, jacuzzis, porno videos, massage chairs. Quirky names are common such as "Hotel Seeds," "The Kind and I," "Full tide." Prices vary but bargains are aplenty, especially during the day when you can pay as little as $30 for all afternoon.

One final word, if you're stuck out at Narita Airport overnight I recommend you head into the town of Narita to a huge English pub called The Barge Inn. Popular with flight crews and local girls, this pub rocks on weekends with live music.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your post. Very well organized and interesting.

I am a candidate for a position with a firm that supports Nissan in the US and in Japan. If I get the position I would be based in the US but might get to Japan on rare occasions. So, its nice to know the information you provided, just in case.

Those interested in Tokyo Sanuk may also want to check past threads here on Japan and Tokyo, of which there are a few, as well as the trusty WSG.

Although Roppongi's overview is very nice, and much appreciated, it should be reiterated that closed-door policies to gaijin are pretty widespread in Japan. I did find many places in Shunjuku which accepted foreigners, but high premiums were in the asking for Japanese girls in most cases. I agree that the best place for foreigners to meet Japanese girls, as his name suggests, is Roppongi. Still, the days of Japanese girls drooling over you just b/c you are a foreigner are long gone, at least in Tokyo.

For some good late-night fun, I enjoy walks around Shin-Okubo, which is where many of the Thai and Latin girls ply their trade.

No, the girls are not included. If you intend to stay in a 'Love Hotel' you have to bring your own bird. US$ 30 is strictly for accommodation.

My wifes from Narita and the Barge Inn is her favorite hangout (well not anymore since she lives thousands of miles away). She says the Roast Beef is excellent there (but I dont trust her palate).
