Elation
Can one legally own a car in one's own name with a retirement visa ? Has anyone done this recently and are there any gotcha items that I should be aware of ?
Straycat
Hi there! You can now legally own and register a vehicle regardless of visa. The rules have changed quite recently and many shop-keepers, and even government officials, might not recognize it. It is a fact however that you don't need a work permit or any kind of special visa to own a vehicle in Thailand. What you need is: a letter from you embassy stating that you have an adress in Thailand copies of your passport and visa In some cases you might also be asked to provide a copy of your apartment/house rental agreement. Pianoman
Straycat is correct... I purchased two taxi's in my name while in country on a tourist visa.. Since then have transfered ownership to GF due to tax situation, but will be purchasing a personal car in Nov. or Jan. and it will be in my name... Just make sure that you have good insurance in force prior to driving at all... Pianoman
