Fatbastard
I think this restaurant deserves a plug. Located on Suk Soi 63 (Soi Ekamai) around 1 km down from Sukumvit on the Left side. Name is Khun Ying. Specialises in Seafood. I usually have thet good old standby Pla Grabong. Always perfectly grilled, good size and 280 baht (compare that to the 400+ baht on the Cosmo review) Hoi lai Prik pow, (Mussels in red curry) and Tom yum Nam Sai and a Large Singa all up 600 Baht for plenty of food for two. Usually we also have Grilled prawns at about 500 baht a kilo (from Memory) No service charge and always had impressive service. The staff are well dressed, good at their job and importantly for me, keep their distance) The place has an AC part but I prefer to sit ouside where the surroundings are very pleasant with small water falls and ponds, large fish tanks and even a childrens playground ( I get a big kick out of the merry go round) A very pleasant and romantic place for a lovers meal out or a Business dinner. Never seen more than 4 or 5 tables occupied out of maybe 30 on offer outside, more in the AC part, so not crowded. I am at a loss to know why its not far more popular, Not promoted well? a bit old fashioned for the yuppy crowd maybe. Only downside, limited range of beer, Singa, and that poofters beer, Heinkin, neither of which I do not care for. Don't ask me about the wine list, as I only drink Ozzie red when I'm in Aust. Summary. I would be surprised if it had an off night, been going for many years. So expect good seafood from a good Menu selection at very reasonable prices. In a very pleasant garden type atmosphere. Been there maybe 30 times over the last few years and have never seen another Farang eating there. Always good service and Plenty of parking. Take my word for it the old FB knows his food, so no contradictions on my review please.
samak
maybe you are the only farang on ekamai anyway (i know there are many farang expats living in the condos around ekamai, but you never see them in the restaurants and pubs along ekamai). anyway thanks for this info. but where is it? 1 km down from sukhumvit is a bit vague. and if you miss it a uturn on ekamai during rush hour is no fun. any other well known places in the surrounding? Guest
I would have thought that the governor of Bangkok would be familiar with the Ekemai area.

Fatbastard
Not much along that stretch between Piano and Khun Ying. If you get to Bar Bu ree you have gone too far. Has a largish sign out front and twinkly lights. not easy to miss.

It's been a well known among Thais for at least 20 odd years. So, yes, a bit old fashioned for young Thai professionals.
Fatbastard
'It doesn't have to be promoted. It's been a well known among Thais for at least 20 odd years" Don't follow your logic here. Younger Thai's and Tourists are the one's spending the money and while I can understand that the place won't have that much appeal to the Young Thais, its got the food and the atmosphere to appeal to a much wider crowd than it attracts now. So if she wants to generate revenue its still requires promotion. Mc Donalds/ Coke/Pizza hut etc Don't sit back and say "well everybody knows about us so we will stop all our promotion expenditure"
BkkShaggy
TIT Remember? Some times they don't maximise profit. If they have enought revenue to get by they don't make any effort to improve their business. If I'm not mistaken this restaurant belong to a hi-so. It's one of her toys I think. Fatbastard
I'm sure you are right about being a toy, but in all other respects the place is run very professionally. So maybe its just an outfit to entertain her freinds, while it is, I will enjoy the benifits. BTW I assume you have been there, what do you think?
