jp1
There was one other bizarre experience in Guilin, one that I experienced nowhere else in China. Teenagers wanted to have their photo taken with me. I obliged, but I admit to feeling a little like the camel in a photo I have of my CG : bemused. Artiew, that's nothing special. Even nowadays there are some remote parts of Japan, where people ask gaijin (foreigners), to take a photo of them. Experienced the same in parts of Central China. gobbledonk
It seemed bizarre in light of the fact that many of the older Chinese clearly didnt want to be in the same postal code as me ... A work colleague told me the story of a guy he knew in Japan. Blessed with a pale complexion and naturally blonde hair, he was such an attraction in rural areas of Japan that people would run from their houses to offer him presents. Again, that level of attention would make me uncomfortable.
jp1
Artiew, it's East Asia and when you live here for many years you get used to it. If somebody asks me, I've no problem to grant her or him the permission to take a photo.
