Also worth mentioning that Australian resorts and some Pacific island resorts also are getting extra bookings as well

I believe that many Australians will elect to simply 'stay home' this year, visiting perennial favourites like Cairns, the Gold Coast etc. These are, undeniably, tourist traps and its often more expensive to spend 3-4 weeks in one of the tourist havens than it is to go to Thailand or Bali. The terrorists have unwittingly reignited people's interest in seeing their own country.

I've heard good things about Broome, on the north coast of Western Australia : the locals are an interesting mix of Asian and Australian ethnicities, its less touristy and still has enough accomodation/restaurants etc to make it a viable destination. I've never been to the Kimberley's, but it does look like a spectacular place to visit.

Apologies for the parochialism, but I DID try to choose somewhere outside of QLD :)
