Taxation/registration of sole traders

I'll clarify what I am really getting at! I know noodle vendors pay a street traders licence annually and I presume they do not pay tax either because they do not earn enough or cannot be realistically traced or made accountable.

However, take a small retail outlet, a small noodle shop as we're on the subject of noodles (!), what is their position?

I asked my brother in law the same question and managed to establish that there is a VAT threshhold you dont want to exceed but quite what it is I have not been able to establish.

They also need to start paying personal income tax once the profits, I assume, exceed 5000 baht. To be honest however I got the impression that not very many people bother with the finer details.
