jasmine
Hi HT, Put the "n" on your "purring" please. By the way, there is another word that I think you might have heard. It is "plearn" the same sound as the "earl" as in "pearl". The "plearn" means "fun" as "sanuk". Cheers!

SUZIBANDIT
Jasmine, I know when doing business with Thais they use the proper pronunciation (i.e rolling "r" etc.). However many of these same businesspeople stop rolling and get the lazy tongue when speaking with friends or family. This has been my observation. It is the same way English speakers will use proper terms and pronunciation if the situatuion calls for it, but will use slang and half words when with friends. I find the use of proper pronunciation to be a very situation based practice. Whaddya think?
Mentors
Every Thai learn in the school the different between r and l. Ro rüa is not lo ling. But most Thais are lazy to speak r instead l. That's the answer what my GF gives to me. Look at the T.V., the people speak always with an r, and also the people in the south-thailand speaks with r. This lazy thing is coming from the Norteast and influence meanwhile also BKK.
