redwood13
Looking for the basics - oils, canvas etc. There's a shop here on Central Pattaya Road but it doesn't really have all that much. -redwood

Nervous_Dog
Oils are very expensive here, I buy the Archival oils from Australia and get them shipped. Windsor Newton, Rembrandt, art spectrum and all the other oils here are very expensiive. Archival is quite a nice oil by the way. Canvas is also hard, especially if you want something like Belgium. If your looking for good canvas, I by it in China town, and then get it strechedd at a framers. Cheap! If you want pre streched blocks, they are non existant or very hard. A good area here is the Uni beside the grand palace, nice people who can make suggestions and helped me. I get my wife to prime the canvas myself. Mostly I work Impast, so I use a LOT of oil, so big tins or tubes are best. If you painting flat, then I guess though expensive the oils here will do, Depends the size of the canvas etc etc. Good paper is around, but I find it dard to get good charcol and red sticks if your into drawing. With oils, they are a prohibitied item, so you can;t bring them in your luggage (Shows up on XRAY real easy coz of the heavy metals.) However it is cheap and easy to ship here. BaronTT
Central Chit Lom has an art supplies section, but I don't know how extensive it is compared to other places.
redwood13
Thanks for the responses Looks like mail order may be the way to go though I'll have a look at some of the suggested places next time I'm in Bangkok. Thinking of using: http://www.dickblick.com/ from the US if I decide to mail order. -redwood

redwood13
Thanks for the offer - will do assuming I survive the horrors of Songkran in Pattaya. As you know you can waste an entire day and see nothing unless you know the galleries, their hours and locations. -redwood
bangkapiboy
"The Mall Bangkapi" I know has a somewhat decent selection of art supplies. Oils, acrylic, inks, pastels, all paper, and pre stretched canvases are there.
Nervous_Dog
Will take atrip out there - do you remember where? (Large place - but fun wondering around) Plus I can take the family to the rooftop pool! DOG
bangkapiboy
Gotta love that rooftop pool! Anyway, that is the best art selection I have seen. It's in the department store's art supplies section. Bring your passport and 100B to get The Mall VIP card and you get 5% off your goods for a year -- plus free access for you and a guest to the pool for a year. So, what sort of painting do you do?
