I was here when the student protests led the "Gang of Three" to flee and democracy returned to Thailand. In the few years before the "experiment" ended, Thailand became almost the Wild West. Upcountry political candidates made the news on a number of occasions by engaging in gun battles, and vote buying was open and blatant. The Bangkok Post described Thai democracy back then as meaning "one man, one gun". It was an interesting time to be here. :surprised:

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been accused by the U.S. Army and soldiers who served with him of abandoning his outpost in Afghanistan back in 2009, has been charged with “misbehavior before the enemy†in addition to desertion.

Bergdahl was charged with “misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of a command, unit or place†and prompting the military to launch search operations,†said the Army in a statement, adding that the charge carries a potential life sentence."

p.s. He should never have been allowed to enlist, since he'd already been discharged from the Coast Guard as unsuitable for military service. But few were volunteering, and a recruiter got him a "waiver" so he could sign him up.

Robert Reich:

“Bernie did well yesterday but he can’t possibly win the nomination,†a friend just wrote, attaching an article from the Washington Post that shows how far behind Bernie remains in delegates -- but which gives only total delegate counts including superdelegates.

Wrong. The fact is:

1. Bernie won big yesterday in Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. He’s now eliminated a big portion of Hillary Clinton’s delegate lead. As of today, she has 54.9 percent of the pledged delegates to Bernie’s 45.1 percent.

2. There are still 22 states to go with nearly 45 percent of pledged delegates still up for grabs – and Bernie has positive momentum in almost all of them.

3. Hillary Clinton's lead in superdelegates will vanish if Bernie gets a majority of pledged delegates.

4. Bernie is outpacing Hillary Clinton in fundraising. In February, he raised $42 million (from 1.4 million contributions, averaging $30 each), compared to her $30 million. In January he raised $20 million to her $15 million.

5. By any measure, the enthusiasm for Bernie is huge and keeps growing. He’s packing stadiums, young people are flocking to volunteer, support is rising among the middle-aged and boomers.

Yet if you read the Washington Post or the New York Times, or watch CNN or even MSNBC, or listen to the major pollsters and pundits, you’d come to the same conclusion as my friend. Every success by Bernie is met with a story or column or talking head whose message is “but he can’t possibly win.â€

That's the media refrain because the Democratic establishment can't conceive of the possibility Bernie will win. That's because they aren't listening to Bernie's message and its resonance among Democratic and independent voters (as well as many Republicans). They don't know how determined Americans are to reverse the increasing concentration of wealth and political power that are eroding our economy and democracy.

What do you think?

I think there is much more to the story that we are not being told...

Flash I am not to sure about point 3 in your list. wonder if the super delegates will listen to the voters :( .....

Also in Holland Sanders is barely mentioned in the news ..... it is all about Clinton and Trump and Cruz.

W

The "super delegates" are mostly political figures - Congressmen, Senators, governors, mayors, state politicians. They are not required to vote any way except their own, but if Bernie goes to the convention with a majority of pledge delegates and the super delegates give it to Hillary anyway, expect a major revolt against them. Many Sanders backers would stay home on election day, or at least vote against the super delegates who ignored their will.

Hillary at first had most of the super delegates 8 years ago, but they began switching when Obama moved into the lead.

p.s. I don't think Thais know anything about Sanders either. I've had two Thais approach me lately to tell me how much they like Trump. :p

Twitter Just Responded to Hillary Clinton’s Refusal to Debate Bernie Sanders

...

As US Uncut reported earlier today, a Clinton campaign strategist told CNN in a live interview segment that Sen. Sanders’ campaign ads had a negative tone to them, and that until he changed his tone, Clinton wouldn’t be agreeing to a debate in New York.

Sanders, however, has only criticized Clinton on her past record on important issues, and has even refrained from attacking her over the ongoing State Department email scandal. Twitter let Clinton know that Sanders’ “tone†was far shy of what she could expect from Donald Trump in a general election matchup, or from ISIS if she were to be elected president and have to contend with the terrorist group running amok in the Middle East:
