Mekong
Scheduled to be back for 3 weeks from 12 April but all depends on getting my Passport back from the Ministry of Public Security of The Socialist Republic of Vietnam. They are issuing my TRC (Temporary Residence Card) and its more important that I get that than to take a vacation at the moment.
Specialist
At this point, I TENTATIVELY expect to be wheels up early Friday morning, May 2, land at Swampypoom and subsequently arrive at the hotel around 1 AM Sunday 4 May. I still have to run the traps with the airline and the hotel. I just set up the airfare. Burning some AA miles instead of dollars this trip. I need to get the exact details before I set up the hotel reservation.
Flashermac
Dollars will get you a bit more baht right now, currently about US$1 = 32.5.
zzzz
You must like hot weather -- April is the hottest month in LOS, as July is in USA. I was thinking of going in June ... when Mangosteen is in season. (When that Malaysian Airline went missing it was carrying tons of the stuff). Specialist
It is more a case of I *NEED* the downtime, after a rougher-than-usual period, and first half of May is the earliest I can get away. I still have one more hotel reservation I have to set up. American Airlines Revenue Management insists on making me overnight in Dallas on the way back (or pay significantly more money or miles). Flashermac
The JAL-American connection? Direct to Tokyo from Dallas, then a short hop to LOS. Thai and Japanese hostesses from Tokyo to Bangkok.
jitagawn
I used to fly JAL and still fly ANA through Tokyo. The food is always excellent from Tokyo but it is still 6- hours solid to BKK from Tokyo.

I had a problem like that with AA. UAL is better when using FF miles to LOS.
Specialist
The JAL-American connection? Direct to Tokyo from Dallas, then a short hop to LOS. Thai and Japanese hostesses from Tokyo to Bangkok. Outbound leg is straightforward, Huntspatch to Chicago, Chicago to Hong Kong and on to BKK on Cathay Pacific. Return leg is the headache. BKK-Tokyo on JAL, Tokyo-DFW on AA, and then AA Revenue Management has the night flight DFW-Huntspatch sewn up tighter than... well, you know. So I get to overnight in Dallas and catch the Dawn Patrol flight out the next morning. It could be worse. I'll have time to go out somewhere and get a decent dinner, as opposed to being stuck in the hotel.
Flashermac
The federal government sent me on some weird routes. I once got sent BKK-Tokyo, Tokyo-Seattle, Seattle-Chicago, Chicago-Memphis, then on to the "Rocket City". I remember complaining that I had been served breakfast 3 times already! I suspect the guy in charge of routing was getting a kickback from some airlines.
