  1. I'm amazed they have to borrow, all that money and they still spend more than they have ...
  2. No, Earth is not heading toward a ‘mini ice age’ It’s a dramatic idea, but it isn’t being embraced by many climate scientists, who argue that anthropogenic global warming — brought on by a human outpouring of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere — will far outweigh any climate effects that might be caused by the sun. As far as the solar variations go, “The effect is a drop in the bucket, a barely detectable blip, on the overall warming trajectory we can expect over the next several decades from greenhouse warming,†more at the link http://www.washingto...a-mini-ice-age/ I of course, oppose this view that anthropogenic global warming will far outweigh anything, and this is one that I'll live to see, 2030 roll on. Non-anthropogenic global warming, how ever, is another story.

  5. Quite, on more investigation, encrypting files first, then using any cloud service seems to be the way to go. In order to beat the password to my cloud account out of me, they'd have to know about it, it'd be a faux one, not associated with my normal usage. Ahhh, now I feel safe again.

  7. Here's a question. Which of the various Cloud services is the most secure in the opinions of you lot, the esteemed board members. i.e. Drop Box, iCloud, Google Drive, etc I know they all have some level of security and that handing stuff off to the cloud has inherent security issues. But in the same way as DuckDuckGo doesn't track your searches (as far as we know) which cloud service is least vulnerable ? I ask this because the NZ Govt looks like it's gonna start demanding passwords to phones, tablets and laptops, soon. Any and all discussion welcome. Cheers Coss
  8. Research Indicates Northern Hemisphere Should Experience Mini Ice Age in 15 Years http://www.piercepioneer.com/research-indicates-northern-hemisphere-should-experience-mini-ice-age-in-15-years/43186 'Mini Ice Age' headed our way by 2030: New solar model predicts colder planet http://www.examiner.com/article/mini-ice-age-headed-our-way-by-2030-new-solar-model-predicts-colder-planet 'Mini ice age' coming in next fifteen years, new model of the Sun's cycle shows http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/mini-ice-age-coming-in-next-fifteen-years-new-model-of-the-suns-cycle-shows-10382400.html Interesting stuff. A question the alarmists could no doubt answer: "How come the 'models' that predict catastrophic, anthropogenic, Global Warming, missed this one then?" Or is a mini ice age just a temporary 'blip' on the path to being fried?

    Koh Tao Murders

Forensic evidence not 'lost': police chief THE NATION KOK SAMUI: -- National police chief says officer 'misunderstood; case enters third day THE TRIAL on the murder of two British backpackers on Koh Tao entered its third day yesterday, with witnesses testifying that the Samui provincial court was not able to rule on the defence team's request for a re-examination of forensic evidence. Chief prosecutor Thawatchai Siengjaew said the cross-examination of the witnesses would take time, but should be completed by the end of this month. The defence team has asked the court to get the forensic and DNA evidence re-examined by the Justice Ministry's Central Institute of Forensic Science. It had initially been collected and examined by the Police Forensic Science Institute. The trial of the two Myanmar migrants - Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun - for allegedly murdering David Miller and Hannah Witheridge has caught the attention of both local and international media as it is widely believed that they have been made scapegoats for the crime. Miller and Witheridge were murdered in September last year on Koh Tao off Surat Thani province. Meanwhile, national police chief Pol General Somyot Poompunmuang dismissed reports that the DNA evidence in the case could not be re-tested as some of it had either been "used up" or lost. He said this "miscommunication" may have resulted from a misinterpretation of the police investigator's remark. On Thursday, BBC News reported on its website that crucial DNA evidence in the case could not be re-tested because it no longer exists. It quoted Pol Lt-Colonel Somsak Noorod, who led the original investigation, as saying that some of the original DNA samples had been "used up", while the hair sample found in Witheridge's hand was among samples that was lost. "There's nothing left. It was all used up when we tested the first time," he was quoted as saying. However, Somyot referred to Provincial Bureau 8 chief Pol Lt-General Decha Butrnampetch, who oversees the area, as saying that the evidence was not lost. "This report may have resulted from a mistranslation of the officer's statement," Somyot said, adding that maybe the officer wanted to say that the evidence had been handed over to the Institute of Forensic Medicine after the investigation finished. "So when the defence lawyer asked him in the court about the DNA samples and evidence, he said he did not have them. This may have made people misunderstand that the evidence no longer exists or was lost," the police chief said. Thawatchai agreed, saying the BBC had misunderstood the officer and that the evidence had not been lost. However, he said, some DNA samples may have been used up in accordance with the examination process. "We still have specific DNA samples from the hoe," he said, without elaborating. Police had collected a hoe from a garden near the crime scene where the bodies were found and it was believed to be a murder weapon. British daily, The Telegraph, quoted lead defence lawyer Nakhon Chompuchat as saying, "We have received information from British authorities that shows inconsistencies in the prosecution case. This is significant evidence." However, the lawyer said the evidence was not provided by British police or the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It is believed it came from examination of the victims' bodies in the UK and is tied to DNA found on Witheridge's corpse. 16. Enquiring minds wish to know. How does Japanese (Tokyo, Fukuoka) P4P stack up against LOS I'm assuming its way more expensive. I can remember 30 years ago seeing business card sized photo stickers plastered over hand rails and telephone booths around Shinagawa, advertising young ladies for some purpose or other. Any comments from our widely travelled members? Jack?
  17. And just because I hate them so, here's another pic of a fat girl, making it OK for fat girls to flaunt their fat. Yes I know I'm fat also, but I'm not claiming fame and fortune for mine, I am much more discrete, only flaunting to a discrete and particular group, of money hungry young ladies, and individually at that... And Yes, I know I'm perpetuating the myth, of these arseholes when ignoring them would be the better option.

    Koh Tao Murders

Court may order retesting of DNA in Koh Tao double murder case The Nation KOH SAMUI: -- A court looks set to commission the Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) to retest the DNA of two Myanmar nationals who are facing charges of killing two British backpackers in Thailand last year, an informed source disclosed yesterday. The order is expected to be issued today, according to the source. The move, if made, promises to clear doubts as to whether migrant workers Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun, both 22, were made scapegoats. Both suspects have pleaded not guilty in court, saying that they initially confessed under pressure from police. So far, police and public prosecutors have cited DNA results as incriminating evidence against them, prompting their defence team to request fresh DNA tests. CIFS chief Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan said a retesting of DNA was not common in foreign countries. So far, she said the retesting was quite rare in Thailand and hence she was not sure about the evidence storage process. "We will have to see the conditions of the evidence first," she said. The two Myanmar nationals are standing trial for the murder of 24 yearold David Miller and the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge, 23, on Koh Tao in September. Much of the defence's case revolves around a bid to retest key forensic evidence, including the DNA on cigarettes and a condom found near the crime scene as well as DNA swabs taken from the victims' bodies. "The DNA samples taken from the bodies are not my responsibility. They are in Bangkok," Police LtColonel Somsak Nurod added. The opening day of the trial on Wednesday saw the defence attack the police for failing to cordon off the crime scene quickly enough. 20. Ah yes, but all countries borrow, by way of illustration , NZ has borrowing about 30% of GDP, Laos is just about to borrow to build a railway that'll cost 80~90% of GDP, for the one project. I agree about lynching, who made the decision to borrow so much that couldn't be paid back, lynch them.
  21. I'll have to seek that one one out. Just saw Species II Nice tits, average plot, some acting, worth a watch if there's nothing else.
  22. My views on some of the Viet populace have been posted before, though they were primarily aimed at folk at the low end of the tourist industry. Most of the locals where I stayed were lovely. This occurrence reminds me of the 4 foot 2 inch bastards that caused me so much grief then, complete lack of regard for other people. And they wonder why their women prefer foreigners, who generally, though not exclusively, can behave.
