  1. Only Lovers Left Alive 2013 - Dark Arty, very well done, Tilda Swinton whom I like, good movie, but I want 2 hours of my life back.

The Broken Shore 2013 - Aussie, detective with a troubled past - worth a watch

The Double 2013 - Dark Arty, very well done, from the Dostoevsky, in contrast to the "Only Lovers Left Alive" above, everyone should see this, a thinker's movie, very well worth the watch.

  2. Some of these have been posted earlier, I've watched them on those recommendations:

The Equalizer 2014 - Enjoyable, worth a watch, if only I could fight like that.

The November Man 2014, Good, worth a watch

The Usual Suspects 1995, an oldie but a goodie, I'd forgotten the ending, well worth a watch

Topkapi 1964, I wish they'd make more movies like this, in the vein of The Pink Panther, Ustinov, Morley, Schell, and Mercouri (great voice) well worth a watch

The Legal and justice system reform committee proposes the model of reorganization of the Royal Thai Police Office

    1. Dissolution of the human resource executive [This is the internal police committee that overseas promotions in the force. At all levels of the police, large bribes are required to move up in rank.]

Dissolution of the OPC (Office of the Police Commission)Establishment of the National Police Affairs Council [comprising the following]

    – Head of security-related government agency

    – Head of justice system/judiciary

    – National Human Rights Committee members

    – Persons selected by the members of parliament and senators

    – Citizens who can participate in the appointment and transfer of police officers [as well]

[The inclusion of these parties in a committee on police promotions and transfers strikes at the heart of Thaksin and Red Shirt dogma as their plan for reconciliation is that the judiciary and NGOs be stripped of power to intrude into government affairs.]

    2. Dissolution of the Royal Thai Police Office [meaning the end of the centralization of all police into a common command]

    Transfer the following agencies

    – Forest police to the Forest Department

    – Railway police to the State Railway of Thailand

    – Tourist police to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports[At present the police provide security within ministries and other governmental departments, giving them influence and intelligence capabilities throughout the system. The new plan would allow ministries to command their own specialized security forces apart from the centralized law enforcement function of the national police.]

    How could this go wrong?

  4. It would seem it's real and that Sony has decided not to release "The Interview" in response to threats to target theatres that show the movie.

    2 thoughts come to mind:

Sony genuinely care about their audiences and pulled the movie to prevent any injury to same. This has never bothered the movie makers of films about Iraq or Iran or Afgannystan.

The hackers got enough information to destroy Sony - this is more likely IMHO

  5. No, I bought when it was on the way up and it promptly crashed, remaining to this day, well below my buy price.

The reason the oil price is falling, is that I bought when it was over 100 a barrel, it's been falling ever since.

I've sent a letter to Apple offering to refrain from investing in their company if they give me a new iPhone...

  6. Russia has lost control of its economy and may be forced to impose Soviet-style exchange controls after "shock and awe" action by the central bank failed to stem the collapse of the rouble."

The situation is critical," said the central bank's vice-chairman, Sergei Shvetsov. "What is happening is a nightmare that we could not even have imagined a year ago."

" The Russian people are legendarily stoic in the face of hardships but beware if, and when, their patience runs out,"

  7. Interesting information in this article:

    Including

    - he had recently turned towards a radical branch of Sunni Islam, having rejected his adherence to Shia Islam. (Swapped Sides?)

    - Sydney-based Shi'ite cleric Kamal Mousselmani urged federal agents to launch an investigation into Monis. (Muslims think he was a nutter)

In related news, it seems these nutters exist in NZ also, see article.

The guys in NZ should be cautious, there's a curious vein of National Loyalty in NZ Gang culture, the Yakuza and the Triads have never been able to gain a foothold, though they've tried. The locals like things as they are, and have been known to 'sort out' people who could increase the police presence or powers.

  8. After years of perturbation on the stability of the Baht, I've come to one conclusion that seems to explain the stability and also encompass the explanations I've seen, from experts and the lay alike.

When the deck chairs get reshuffled in the event that we dare not speak of, the Baht will not be so strongly underpinned and volatility will be the order of the day.
