  1. So you are not doing back to back runs out of Thailand and staying in country more than 90 days per 180. Guess you have the proper Lao visa in any case. Currently I'm doing about 10 days in Thailand every 6-7 weeks, no need for a visa since it will not cross the 90 days per 180 threshold, not are any of the entries out and in.

But what they are saying is "do this three times-or even once, then f**k off!"

  2. But - I go to Nong Khai for a day or two approx every two months. Bangkok less often. But now I can only visit Thailand up to three more times before I'm refused entry. What sort of a f** king job would I have if I only neede to be in Thailand for a day or two, 6-8 times a year. Hopefully the cretins will be reasonable at the border. This last time I noticed the Generalissimo checking my passport stamps. But I guess he saw I was only there for 1-2 days each time and he let me go.

  3.

Okay, so it seems there really is a lack of gender discrimination here in some respects so what makes it seemingly, man first, or is it foreigner first. Do the less well educated restaurant server types still view Thai women with foreigners as a lesser breed? Are they being judgmental in some way?

I noticed that too. And here I think we expose a vulnerability in the western feminist view. If in the course of events, the female is served first, this is OK, but if it's the male, this is somehow wrong. Ideally it should be 50/50 or at least random.

So as most of my life in the west the lady was served first, me being being served first over here has a long way to go...

    :)

  4. Quite right 2004 it is.

As I am exercising people minds, getting one's dates wrong would be defined as a mistake, saying Takkie promised 250 cows to each family would serve as an exaggeration 😀

  5. 20 years give or take a few. He still promised them cows. And yes, when pressured to explain where he'd get the millions of cows needed, he stumbled and said "Australia?" Cunning foreign cows them...

  6. A tangent. I get CNN amongst others. When the docco series 'cold war' starts the whole channel is stopped and replaced by Vietnamese script. It goes back to CNN when the docco is over.

So CNN is fed to Laos from VN

    They Censor

VN is sensitive about USSR vs USA

  7. I'm with Huumlar, well I was one night anyway, though suffering from a deleterious hangover, I saw the potential in Saphan Kwai.

I went to Soi Cowboy on Monday and also a month or so ago, and the experience is not what it used to be, drink prices are through the roof, girls are very expensive. Maybe it's because I'm hooked in MLG, or maybe it's because of the Thai view on running businesses, (if demand falters, put up the prices) but I'm not keen on Cowboy any more, I did want to see Patpong, but, maybe next time it's Saphan Kwai!

  8. Count me as an atheist.

    But...

Religions, on balance, do a lot of good. Think, what would these millions of people get up to, with their propensity for irrational beliefs and behaviours if not religion. Better, they are where we can see them and for the majority of them, doing more good than harm...

  9. You probably want to keep the CO2 in circulation, rather than locking it away and not letting Mother Nature recycle it into food.

That's a brilliant premise for a Hollywood block buster - Climate Changers invent a chemical reaction for locking away the carbon in CO2 and it goes into 'runaway' and then there's not enough for food for the world. Just great clumps of black stuff all over the land... :)

  10. No to mention the Buffet and Guinness.

A welcome gathering after the alternate universe that is Laos.

Speaking of alternate universes, f'in Huumlar sent me through a wormhole in the BTS. The next day when I met up with another friend, I suddenly became obsessed with the length of women's 2nd toes, in open toed footwear and it's presumably correlated relationship with my perceived level of sexual attraction to them. The longer the toe, the more attractive and feminine the woman. Don't know why.

All this happened in the space of 5 minutes whilst I was waiting for a ferry. I'm sure I'm in an alternate universe, foot fetishes are not my bag, so to speak.

I'm going back to the worm hole today to see if I can get back to my previous universe, perhaps I'll find a newer one.

  11. Unless you know how to positively identify a snake, stay well away. In particular there is a green tree snake that is bright apple green and harmless, there is also a very poisonous viper that looks exactly the same.

I saw a brown snake in my garden last week, about 5 ft long, I tried to kill it but it got away, shame, I was looking forward to a nice snake curry.
