  1. Not sure I agree with you on that. The story probably should have provided a bit more background. Keep in mind is was done from a journalistic position as part of WTFAQ, or What The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to the uninitiated, ABC's new eight-part series which sees a crack team of presenters — including comedian Lou wall — perform scientific experiments, talk to experts and put their bodies on the line all in the name of answering some of life's most perplexing questions.
  2. Australian journalist calls her baby ‘Methamphetamine Rules’ as a test of naming regulations When ABC journalist Kirsten Drysdale gave birth to her third child, she decided to put the Births Deaths and Marriages register to the test Are there any names you can’t legally call your baby in Australia? It’s a question many wanted answered by the ABC’s new show What the FAQ, says Kirsten Drysdale, a journalist at the public broadcaster. So when Drysdale gave birth to her third son in July, she decided to put it to the test. She submitted his given name to New South Wales Births, Deaths and Marriages as “Methamphetamine Rules”. “We thought we would submit the most outrageous name we could think of, assuming it would be rejected,” she said. “But it didn’t turn out that way – unfortunately Methamphetamine Rules slipped through the cracks.” A spokesperson for Births, Deaths and Marriages said the “unusual name” had “unfortunately slipped through”. They said they had strengthened the registry’s process in response to this “highly unusual event”, and would be working with the family to change the name. However, the spokesperson said that doesn’t mean the original name goes away. “A name registered at birth remains on the NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages Register forever,” the spokesperson said. “Even if the name is formally changed.” Drysdale said she had been deciding between “Methamphetamine Rules” and “Nangs Rule”, referring to the Australian slang for nitrous oxide canisters used to get a fleeting high. But she decided against Nangs Rule in case the approver at the registry didn’t know what Nangs were and it was approved. “We chose methamphetamine thinking there’s no way that anyone will see that word and think it’s OK,” said Drysdale, who added her husband took some convincing to agree to the experiment. “But we were wrong.” Drysdale said she was under the impression that if a name was rejected by the registry, they choose one for you. She had reached out to the registry for answers to her show’s segment on what names can be legally given to a baby in Australia which will air on Wednesday. The spokesperson for NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages said it “does not choose what name parents give a child”. However, the state government’s website detailing the rules states if a name for a baby cannot be registered and parents do not provide an alternative, the registrar may assign a name. Under the rules, the registrar will not approve a name if it is offensive and not in the public interest. It also will not approve given names that are more than 50 characters, include symbols, or an official title or rank such as princess, Queen, or goddess. Drysdale said she would not yet reveal what her baby’s new name is yet. “My husband said maybe his nickname should be ‘Speedy’, but I’m sure he will develop his own nickname that’s appropriate to his real name and his personality,” Drysdale said. “He’s a very chill child, a beautiful baby boy, so not anything like a meth user.”
  3. I did the eye test at the Registry without any drama and it is no longer noted on my license. That's not the issue. The issue is at the administration level which trust me is not an easy process.
  4. When they deactivate your Facebook account that includes the Messenger function 😠
  5. How? Like I said the only point of contact. I don't have email addresses, phone numbers etc. People all over the world who I have either known for years or from my travels.
  6. The thing is I don't have my CC linked to any website and I have a dedicated Debit card I use for any online payments (the cancelled card) which I transfer the required funds to prior to any purchases. I actually don't think the dodgy transactions had anything to do with Facebook. I think was a play on the name (FACEBK) to not attract attention.
  7. Unfortunately the only point of contact I have for some people. And more importantly I am a member of the Thais Pointing At Things Group 😀
  8. I guess what is annoying me most is the lack of options available from old mate Meta Mark
  9. OK, so I am no different to most who get bombarded with endless phishing emails and text messages. I know all the usual give away and never ever click on links etc. I also get my fair share of energy bill saving offers or from the fraud department from the bank I don't actually bank with. They generally come out of call centers in Mumbai. But this latest little incident has really pissed me off. So I recently get this text message from my bank (yes it actually was my bank) Then another one. They had actually tried a couple of weeks ago which I flagged and the Bank refunded the money. Then I start getting Facebook password reset requests Security from the Bank did call me Cancelled the card and froze the account Facebook however has been a completely different beast as the below will show.
  10. Haven't heard Tumblr mentioned in a while. I kind of thought people moved on to Instagram. I believe there is also a FB page dedicated ti Thais pointing.
  11. Only thing ever known that it may have come out of Arizona where a proxy was once traced. How the f#@k you do that I have no idea and why would you bother 😊
  12. We had a first up win. Not very convincing but a win. Pleasing thing for me was watching one of my sons old team mates make his debut and score 2 tries
  13. Bangkok International Sevens is on in November 🤔 I remember being in Bangkok for the last WC. Watched the opening game between Japan and Russia at the Sportsman Bar. The Japanese supporters were so polite enthusiastically clapping the Russian side when they made a good play. Oddly I had just driven back from Kanchanaburi where we visited Hellfire Pass where they were portrayed as absolute c@*ts
  14. I believe Ireland are favorites. Australia will make it past the Pool stage as they drew lucky but not sure they will go any further.
  15. Met a cute Thai girl in Sydney once going by the name of Tanya. Common for their English teachers to give them an English name for class which they adopt. When I asked her what her Thai nickname was, on learning it was Poo I immediately lost interest. Just couldn't imagine myself meeting up with friends and saying "hey this is Poo"

    Any New Jokes

Completely missed it. Still funny 😊
  17. Revenue distribution in Oz is a sore point to begin with so wouldn't really change much 😋
  18. In all honesty I don't have any issues with the majority of Kiwis. Similar to us Aussies in so many ways. But the term "Aussies" is very different to what it used to be. What I have found lately is a level of racism beyond what I remember growing up. Australia used to be a very tolerant country to foreigners. Sure there was that pocket of society who felt threatened by anything different but all in all it worked. There was a great film called They're a Weird Mob That was kind of how it was growing up. Now I find as a white Anglo Saxon Australian I am a minority. I recently had a guy at work complaining about his kids new school being full of Asians and Indians. Oddly he migrated here not too long ago. Personally doesn't really bother me.
  19. Who's indigenous people? I always believed the indigenous people of New Zealand reconciled long ago and all parties were quiet agrreable with what took place. Here in Australia it's a completely different story.
  20. I'm with you on this one. What I discovered after watching bits and pieces of the Woman's World Cup is the woman seem to be tougher than the men. Didn't see any of the injury simulation like you do with the men. None of that rolling on the ground in agony then get up uninjured once they win a penalty. Soft as 🙄
  21. New Zealand was actually part of the New South Wales Colony for over 50 years and correct it is I think in both constitutions but I may be wrong.
