OldAsiaHand
I was trolling through a list of porno and semi-porno web sites that were linked to a site I was looking at, and suddently this popped up in a pretty little blue box: ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- ¢ÃÃÀÑ ·Ò§Êӹѡ§Ò¹µÓÃǨáË觪ҵԢÃÃçѺ¡ÒÃà ª×èÃõèÃÃÒ·Õèà Ǻ䫵ì¹Õé à ¹×èç¨Ò¡ÃÕÃÙ»ÀÒ¾ ËÃ×âéäÇÒ÷ÕèäÃèà ËÃÃ’ÃÊà à ªè¹ Ã…Ã’Ã¡Ã¹Ò¨Òà ¡Òþ¹Ñ¹ ËÃ×Ãà »ç¹ÀѵèäÇÒÃÃÑ蹤§¢Ã§ªÒµÔ Êú¶ÒâéÃÃÙÅà ¾ÔèÃà µÔÃä´é·Õè "ÈÙ¹Âì¢éÃÃ􁢎ÃÊ¹à ·È" ÃÒ¤Òà 19 ªÑé¹ 2 Êӹѡ§Ò¹µÓÃǨáË觪ҵÔ ¶¹¹¾ÃÃÃÒÃ1 »·ØÃÇѹ ¡·Ã.10330 â·Ã 0-2251-0164 ËÃ×à webmaster@police.go.th">webmaster@police.go.th</a> ʶԵԡÒÃÃѺá¨é§à Ǻ¼Ô´¡®ËÃҢçÊӹѡ§Ò¹µÓÃǨáË觪ҵÔ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry, the web site you are accessing has been closed by Royal Thai Police due to inappropriateness such as pornography, gambling or contain any information which is deemed to violate national security. Guest
Yeah I get this too when doing, uh research. Funny thing is you can look at all the porno you want unless the site refers to the girls as Thai. Maybe if they were labeled as Myanmar or Cambo everything would be OK. Clearly its a plot to get expats to actually go out to bars and stimulate the economy rather than themselves. ::
rickfarang
So....not that I look at this kind of web site myself, but I am cusious, are they block all sites that refer to the women being Thai or just sites with domains that end with ".th"? I'm in the U.S. right now and can't test that myself. RickF.
Guest
Nope, it's mostly blocked dot .coms that I've seen. If it was a .th I think they'd just yank the domain and bust the owner. What I think they're doing is inserting that cop page into the ISPs proxy cache. Its pretty heavyhanded. Actually it's kind of a joke since you can go to maybe 50 sites about "national security" like Janes or FAS and get precise analysis of the military. Not to cross the line here but one military site portrays the way that the Thai aircraft carrier gets used in pretty insulting terms to the Big People but you can read the site from Thailand. Big double standard or selective enforcement.
khunsanuk
Hi, Yeah, I was told that this was gonna happen a while ago. The list of to be blocked sites is very long (thousands was the number I was told). Should we get shut down, I am sure a solution will be found shortly Sanuk! OldAsiaHand
The plan might work for guys who aren't in Thailand, but if you are someone like me who is local and using a Thai ISP, it seems to me that we're screwed. I gather what is happening here is that at least some Thai ISP's are allowing some kind of Thai government authority (the police, really? maybe, but there are other possibilities) to prevent their subscribers from accessing whatever sites this 'authority' decide to block for whatever reason. As long as they are doing that, we will always see only the sites they permit us to see, regardless of where the sites are hosted. Right?
Guest
I heard from thbis in december the first time, but never again since then. I am surprised, it still happens.
khunsanuk
Hi, "I gather what is happening here is that at least some Thai ISP's are allowing some kind of Thai government authority (the police, really? maybe, but there are other possibilities) to prevent their subscribers from accessing whatever sites this 'authority' decide to block for whatever reason." I'm afraid it is not some, but all. And it is not really all that voluntary either from what I understand. I do think that it is mostly porn and gambling sites that are / will be blocked, so I am kinda hoping this one will not. Sanuk!
limbo
It pretty much sucks. What do they try to achieve? Doesn't make sense to me, maybe somebody else can explain this to me.
