check_bin_krap
A windows 98 startup diskette is always handy to have available. If one can't boot the operating system from the hard disk this bootable diskette can be used to run Fdisk or other DOS tools. How to create this diskette: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001022709560139 You'll need access to a PC running Win98/95/ME to create this. Cheers! P.S.: Even if one tries to run FDISK in a DOS window under xp/2k, it wouldn't work. You have to boot from DOS to use this tool.
ALHOLK
Hi! And if they are not available there is always:The Bootable Business Card Absolutely and indeed most other Linux versions on bootable CD's including most installatin CDs. regards ALHOLK
adikgede
Thats right you can get a rescue environment on almost any distro's cd, but the bootable business cards are quite amazing. You get a full host of utilities* linked to busybox, ssh, etherreal, nmap, an ethernet and modem configurator, a graphical desktop and graphical web browser and many more all on a cd the size of a business card that you can keep in you wallet. ag
ALHOLK
Hi! A friend once told me that the business card style CDs don work so well in high speed readers as they are asymetric and can cause bad vibrations. Do you have any experience of this? regards ALHOLK
adikgede
I have been told not to use the ones that are rectangular, but rather the ones with a curved short edge. However they don't spin that much once the kernel and whatever programs you use are loaded into RAM. If the computer you are using has a swap partition you can use that aswell. ag
ALHOLK
Hi! Thanks for the info. If I ever get time I have planned to assemble my own Linux on a CD. regards ALHOLK
