jasmine
[color:"red"] I've always seen it as a protection of investment, of sorts, for a girl to send money home, so the "farm" will be there for her, when her time comes. This is not to say that that there is not an inherant obligation for all siblings to take care of parents, but it is the daughters who have the most to gain, concerning the retention of the "family jewels". [/color] It is not always true that the girls who support the family will inherit. The Thai law treats women and men equally in this context. It is up to the owners to give to whoever. If there is no will, the property will be divided to the spouse, children and parents. Cheers!
