Firstly I just wanted to say congrats and thanks for getting this family life forum up and running (thanks also to KS for being so obliging).

Now onto your question

>>>if have Thai or Luuk Kreung children outside of LOS, do you have things send over for them from LOS? <<<

Yes all the time, although these parcels mainly consist of clothing for my kids, there are quite often a few toys thrown in to help out with Xmas and birthdays etc.

The clothing packs that the wifes brother put together for us are fantastic, and the bottom line is that it saves us an absolute fortune against what we could be paying for stuff here in the UK.

Although kids clothes are still VAT exempt here, the prices do get hiked pretty fiercely and believe it or not you could end up paying more for a few decent kids outfits than you would for adults gear.

As for us being asked to send anything back to LOS for my niece and nephews, although I have never been asked to, I have always tried to find something maybe a little different from what I would expect to find on the shelves back in LOS and hopefully it would be a pretty nice surprise for them.

Although I must admit it is becoming more and more of a challenge to find something that could be classed as different!!

Hi BKKB,

welcome to the forum, and all others as well. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do and that it may be usefull for the information to be found here.

BKKB,

I'm really happy being in LOS regarding the clothing reason, sofar I never paid more than 200Baht for any kind of clothing the baby needed. Unless you buy brand names, the prices are very good.

"Hi CBK,

for books, the Miffy books in Thailand are actually in Thai and English, for a Luuk Krueng very usefull.

Very good move from the publisher IMO"

..........................................................

Thanks for the tip Limbo. But English is out of the question for my step sons kid at this time, Norwegian and Thai is really what he needs. So it means 100% Thai learning material, without foreign language. I went to Tesco Lotus also, and I also got some stuff there.

My family is loaded with 50% Asian kids these days.. My newborn son is 1/2 Viet, brother has a half Phillipino and step son has a half Thai... All boys..

Cheers!

I am Norwegian. That reunion has not taken place... These people are spread out through the world. I hope we can do it, would be mighty interesting! The ones I have not met yet is brothers family, and my new born son. My Viet family have met them though as brother works in Ha Noi these days.

Well - enough off topic now... Lets get back to the thread before some spanking comes our way! :neener:

Cheers!

The last couple of times I have been in LOS I have gone hunting for Thai children songs + starter Thai books for kids. Its for my step sons Luuk Kreung kid.

The best selection I found for Thai children songs was in Emporium, but overall it was not so easy to find this stuff. Probably because I did not know where to look.

Cheers!

You probably know already.

Just asked my wife RE thai learning material for student.

Says MBK will have a good selection.

CBK,

All the Harry Potter books are available in Thai in the Surin bookshop I go to. Plus there are many Thai language Thai ghost story books in the shop. Kids seem to like the ghost stories, as does the wife. I've gotten a few copies of farang books in Thai for the wife. Mostly the three Hannibal/Silence of the Lambs/Red Dragon books, some Stephen King short stories and other stuff the wife has read and enjoyed so far, and her sisters and cousins also once she finished with them. Noticed a whole shelf of the Sherlock Holmes series in Thai last time there. Good for kids a bit older. (Around ten or so I'd think. That's when I started enjoying these.) The Surin shop is decent, but has NO English language books at all. I have to bring my own books in English I buy from a second hand shop in Pattaya. Good shop on Soi Bukkao in Pattaya. Anyone wants the address contact info for the Pattaya shop let me know. I have it here somewhere. A farang and his Thai wife own it. Pretty decent selections there.

Limbo,

Our kid is eleven, just turned, a girl, so there are different things to bring over for a girl than a boy. Past trip I brought over what is called a "Chinese Jump rope". She loves it. The girls in Surin in her school make their own by connecting a bunch of rubber bands together. This one cost me maybe a dollar in the states, and is multi-colored. I brought a game of Jacks, she loves the Crayola Crayons, coloring books with farang cartoon characters and such stuff, lunch pails/book bags with farang cartoon characters goes over well for the school age kids, as do bright colored sparkly #2 pencils and erasers and such school stuff. Cool colored writing/drawing paper and composition pads of different colors is another hit, as is the small assignment pads in different colors (ones that match the color of the composition books went over well.) Every time over I bring a bunch of toys and such from the toy shop here in my town in the states. Most of them are inexpensive. Puzzles with pictures of the countryside in farangland are another hit. Deflated soccer balls, red rubber slaughter balls, basketballs, arer also easy to carry over and re-inflate. Most of the balls I've seen in the Makro and Big C are cheap ones from China and Thailand. And don't get me started on the cheap pieces of crap kids bikes they sell, made in China, shit really. Not worth the small baht paid as they don't last a year before breaking. Actually anything that says it's made in the USA or Europe seem to be a big hit, as the quality of these products does seem to ensure they last and endure some use.

Farang penny type candies are also a big hit. Although Thais don't seem to like Black licorice AT ALL.Red's okay, but the black seems to turn off their taste buds and they can't stomach it. Small boxes iof Fanny Farmer style assorted chocolates go over very big too.

Just don't try to bring water pistols. The airline security people will NOT let these through. And a few months back I tried to bring back on of those wooden slingshots you see everywhere in the LOS, mostly used by the ladies to shot the dogs with rocks when they get too close and too fiesty. Not in my carry-on luggage, but in the bag going under. Never made it to the states. The fuckers in DTW opened my bag and confiscated it. My nephew was disappointed. I was pissed!! Wankers these security idiots.
