rickfarang
There is a document on the Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles web site, http://www.thai-la.net/ On their front page, scroll down to where is says: "Information Regarding Land Ownership in Thailand" and click on "Thai" or "English". It seems to cover most of this in detal. RickF
Crash999
Says think_too_mut: The thing is - a lawyer in Phuket told him about a legal way (thanks to that "exception" for American citizens) to own 1 rai of land. Confusing a couple of issues here. What the lawyer is no doubt advising is that under the treaty of amity, an American can form a company here the same way as a Thai can- owning fully 100% of the company, unlike foreigners from other countries. A corporate entity can own a certain amount of land depending on its charter- probably the 1 rai mentioned for the particular company to be set up. Thus, your friend as an American can own all of a company that legally owns land- thus he owns the land. This is also a common method of getting work permits issued. Cheers! gummigut
The amity agreement specifically precludes the ability for the corporate entity to own land <<burp>>
