Both places have their good and bad points, but overall for someone on their first trip to this part of the world (for this example Pattaya vs Angeles), Thailand wins hands down I believe. Angeles has a lot of very beatiful women, and is cheaper in many ways, but the downsides are huge. The joint is a fuckin pig stye, the locals just dont give a shit about pollution, you have never seen so many armed guards in your life (every business has them from McDonalds to GoGo bars, and aint it fun when they get drunk), it is VERY easy to find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time if you decide to have a walk around to explore the place, and the "Cherry girl" or "I have menstration" line they use these days becomes old pretty quickly. In their favour though... you can certainly find plenty of girls who will rock your world, but be prepared to do a lot of footwork before you find what you are looking for. Dont expect to see any of the "live show" sort of thing you read about in the bars of Thailand either. Also you would NOT walk around Angeles with valuable jewellery on or a camera around your neck, day or night. All Angeles really has going for it are the 50 or so GoGo bars grouped together in a small area, and most bars have expat managers who are an easy mob to get to know, and can team you up with some other guys on a bar crawl to show you around. There are also casinos. Thailand on the other hand caters to tourists, and we dont have that neon light on our heads saying "fair game". Sure you can get into trouble in Thailand, but the odds versus the Philippines are years apart. You will find there are a lot of things to do during the day in Thailand, but in Angeles, getting over your hangover is what the locals do. I think the bottom line here is there are great girls in both places, but weeding through the daily dramas involved in getting to them in Angeles can be frustrating, and who needs that when on holidays?. Just my opinion, and enjoying reading the perspectives of other posters here very much on a topic that seems to come up very often.

BTW..I lived in Angeles from 86 to 98 when I moved to Pattaya after a few visits and have returned a few times there to see long time friends. Pre-volcano and during the "base" days, it was just unbelievable.

Reply to Oscar: You said, "Also you would NOT walk around Angeles with valuable jewellery on or a camera around your neck, day or night." And, "the joint is a fuckin pig stye."

Both of these are very misleading. First of all, anyone who walks around any foreign town wearing expensive jewelry is a fool. In all the time I have spent in AC, I have never had a problem walking around at night, or in the day for that matter. Also, there are "bad" areas in BKK and Pattaya, and just about every city in the world (read the recent post on the General section concerning "Is Sukhumvit Rd. Safe?"). About the cleanliness of AC, I suppose Bangkok and Pattaya are candidates for "Cleanest City in the World?" Yes, AC and its routine are a culture shock to most Westerners, and so is LOS, but once you get used to it and realize what to avoid, it's just fine.

Yes, Clarkton Hotel is about 1.5 miles from the main entertainment area, and that's an asset. It cost 4 pesos (8 US cents) to take a jeepney to the main area (one runs about every two to five minutes), and Clarkton runs a free shuttle to the entertainment area every hour on the hour from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. It's simply NOT a problem.

I have yet to read a compelling argument on why Thailand is "better" than PI.

IMHO, it just isn't so!

Thanks for all the great info guys! I'm definately leaning towards BKK for my first trip. My travel window is from Jan - Apr. What would be the best time to go during these months for bargain airfare, selection of girls, weather, etc...?

Thanx again...

Teacherwannabe, I had written a long response but read it over before posting it and deleted it. As I said, this is a very, very debateable topic, and I will stay out of it now on the "which country is better" routine. But I will stand firm by what I said about Thailand being a safer and cleaner country to visit for someone entering the region for the first time in my opinion, which of course you are totally within your right to disagree strongly with. Besides that, you said you have spent a lot of time in A.C. and that would mean we would be a big chance of having met each other, or at the least, having mutual friends up and down Fields and Perimeter.

Ever see an immaculate blue and silver 71 mach1 mustang parked outside a bar?.

hi,

i've travelled to both places and would say that they both worth a visit.each place has it's own advantages,so it is hard to say which place is "better".

angeles is a lot cheaper,a beer in a bar is

50 pesos(wink wink to the crown croup),a beer in magarita station (24 hour freelancer

pickup place comparible to thermae, but much bigger, two pool tables in there)starts at 20 pesos for a draft.

gals can be found there for 500 pesos longtime.i agree, that in can be a little bit

boring at daytime, not much to do unless your are a poolfreak. there is no beach(in angeles),so if you

like to stay near to the sea pattaya is the better option.of course you can take a girl(or two) from angeles to puerto gallera or boracay, which offer some nice tropical beaches.

i don't know how long you plan to stay, but if time is not a problem ,visit both places,

one week in angeles will be enough.return ticket bkk-manila will cost you around 9000

baht.here is a link to an angeles city board: http://angeles2.com/board/,some pics can be found there too.

stay tuned,

One thing I'm curious about: Do the girls

stand outside the bars in Angeles (and Manila) yelling "hello welcome" (...."please come inside....) as they do all over Pattaya, as well as Soi Cowboy (and other places). You walk down soi cowboy and every bar as about 3 girls each yelling hello welcome, please come inside, all at the same time. I'll like Angeles more if they don't have anyone outside doing that.

I would say that "nice" refering to the beach of boracay is a gross understatement. Boracay has one of the best beaches I have seen on this planet and, believe me, I have seen plenty of. Phuket, Kho Samui not to mention Pattaya etc. beaches are no competition for Boracay.

I my humble opinion the average Pinay BG is much less hardened and business only minded than the Thai BG's. Philippine people are much closer to our western culture than the Thai's. It is also much easier to meet the "normal" no BG girls in the PI.

The Philippine sanuk scene is not limited to Angeles City only. You will find girls on Puerto Galera, Boracay and a lot of them in Cebu which is a nice alternative to all the Luzon sanuk places.

On the other side, i have to agree that Thailand would be the better choice for a newbie as MNL is much more of a "shock" to a newcomer in the Far East than BKK.

Happy hunting.

Hello, Clarkton compares to Nana and distance/walk/ride not a problem?

Another said Margarita and Thermae in same context/sentence?

Oscar, are these guys visiting another Angeles? one which I missed in about ten trips and which you missed while living there?

Angeles is a special place as long as the girls don't get attitudes. This attitude trend seems to have been reversed somewhat as customer count down.

The Philippines is about enjoying the Philippine people, mostly the girls. You can also feel "welcomed" by the bar owners and managers if that is the type of atmosphere you so desire.(I prefer to interact with the Philippine people)

In Thailand, you can explore and shop, find alot of different venues for just about everything. Hotels are better. Some good food in Angeles but not as diverse, not even close! to Thailand options, but certainly good enough to get by.

Go to Angeles for love, go to Thailand for lust and diversity. Go to both in the same trip, I do.
