Nashville Skyline(1969)-1st track.

probably the 1st proper Country Rock album ever recorded.

others had tried before, but never bettered IMO.

"And so the album begins, with Dylan covering himself. Girl from the North Country, which was a moving song on The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, suddenly occupies its own space and spare, quiet time. Dylan sounds genuinely bittersweet (not arrogant), and Johnny Cash adds volumes with his midnight vocals. Bob and Johnny fall out of time at one point, and at another, they are curiously off-key, but it sets up a dissonance and a humanity that leaves the original ... well, a very different song than this take. Unfortunately, this is the only song where Johnny Cash appears. Fortunately, Dylan's quite fine on his own"

while i don't agree with some of the comments above,i love the track.

the references of a girl from a northern province with long hair falling down her back do it for me.

it reminds me so much of my favourite girl in Thailand.

the song is more about a cold country, but some thins do it for me.

"If you're traveling in the north country fair

Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline

Remember me to one who lives there

She once was the true love of mine.

If you go when the snowflakes storm

When the rivers freeze and summer ends

Please see if she's a coat so warm

To keep her from the howlin' winds.

Please see if her hair hangs long

If it rolls and flows all down her breast

Please see from me if her hair hangs long

That's the way I remember her best.

I'm a - wonderin' if she remember me at all

Many times I've often prayed

In the darkness of my night

In the brightness of my day.

So if you're travelin' in the north country fair

Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline

Remember me to one who lives there

She once was a true love of mine"

lyrics for me?

If you're traveling in the north country fair

Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline

Remember me to one who lives there

She once was the true love of mine.

i remember the time i had with my girl on the border of Thailand and Laos.

and she still is the greatest girl i have ever met in Thailand.

and

Please see if her hair hangs long

If it rolls and flows all down her breast

Please see from me if her hair hangs long

That's the way I remember her best.

she grew her hair in the time i knew her and the last 2 lines are so special for me.

and how can i forget

"She once was a true love of mine"

not a case of was,she still is in my eyes and she will forever be in my mind.

You bet. That's the magic of music, and the magic of one's memory. some songs will forever tied to LOS for me, though they hardly were composed with LOS in mind. Some others are hitting so well the right string, sure will remind you of that special girl you used to know. heck, i even was reminded of my current TGF, though she's been quite a bitch of late. As I said before: LO(S/VE) will tear us apart ..... No surprise!

That line, that should go against my grain is the most brutally honest in the history of songwriting, and he sings it matter-of-fact, as an aside, pure brilliance deep from the american psyche, the spirit of new and wild frontiers, where one's rule is the rules and one man's pain finds ephemerous relief in another's! Wow.....

I shot a man just to watch him die.

Did someone say: gangster rap? Not even close!!!!!!!
