As the number of attacks, purse and jewlry snatchings and stage coach-like armed robberies on public buses appear to be increasing, the city's police have a suggestion to make us feel a little more comfortable while corssing the pedestrian overpasses on Sukhumvit late at night.

"After a spate of attacks on pedestrians crossing footbridges, the national police chief has suggested that pedestrians should carry a whistle and blow it when they need help.

Pol Gen Sant Sarutanont emerged from a meeting with city police and district officials yesterday, arguing that blowing a whistle might help stop crime.

The national police chief said volunteers recruited to work as police assistants should carry a red whistle and blow it in an emergency.

The city has 852 footbridges, 184 of which looked unsafe for pedestrians, he said. Since January this year, more than 500 robbery attacks have been reported citywide. However, less than 30 took place on footbridges."

Maybe a little less time spent harassing the homeless, prostitutes and stray dogs could give them a chance to develop other advanced crime fighting concepts like whistling.

So you figure they will all dash to the airport if I start 'Blowing on the Footbridge' ?

Maybe they could work out something with their brethern in LOS. Katoey patrols. That would scare off any thief. :grinyes:
